This was a great introduction to the authors. They did a really good job of drawing the plot points together while also leaving the reader with a sense of "now who TF killed these people?" This book was also paced well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the themes of absent parents being told realistically, parentified older siblings, and the dynamics of siblings who don't understand that they are playing into the hands of misogynoir. This book is a cautionary tale: if you don't deal with your "demon," they will deal with YOU!

I think this was a strong debut novel! I think that it has had aspects of a debut novel, which is lacking brevity on things that should have been brief. I found myself being like, "I don't think we needed all of that." However, that was not often. I think this book shines the light on colorism in the Black community and how ostracizing it can be if you are on the darker side of the color wheel. This is also a story of what a family will do, down to murder, to keep up with appearances. I found that sickening, but we have so many examples of that in history and probably in many readers's personal lives.
I am so glad that I got around to reading this, and I was so fascinated by the stories in this book. I will always remember that not everyone you meet is as friendly as you think they are, and not everyone is on bullshit, either.
I have a new series that I love. I loved this so much. This girl can see so many things and comes in and out of people life's to make things better and ends up leaving them in devastation. This was a enjoyable but horrific read.
Wow!!! I have no notes! This is a fantastic vampiric novel. I love that it is like no other vampire novel I have ever read. Here is my video review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqgcRRf-sEw
I loved the themes of disability, different types of parents, and owning your talents in this book. I wish some parts were more flushed out and explored. There were noticeable gaps, but overall, I liked this graphic novel.
Fantastic introduction to a series that I wanted to read as a child. I am digging all the characters and can't wait to learn more about them. If you want a full review, here is the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqKSWQzvb-c
I love that we are getting more empathy with Temperance's Character. This one to me was Temperance Brenan's need to help identify what happened to the baby and to find the child's mother to ensure that nothing bad happened to her based on the situation that she was in. In this book, we also learn about a type of parents that some people can relate to. The more I dive into this series, the more I am reminded that I may not like this character or how the author wrote the character, but I have personally met people who act like this.
The stakes were high in the book, and I just felt bad for the women who were harmed in this book. This follows the story of Temperance during her job as a Forensic Anthropologist in Guatemala, and then young girls who were tied to wealth went missing. Every time a girl went missing and they found her body, I kept thinking, "How can someone be so cruel." However, people are cruel; these things happen in real life. Then, something happens to two of her colleagues. In every one of these books, we find out that Temperance Brenan's research into the dead pisses off the people who committed the crime, and then they target her. This book is no different. I do, however, enjoy how this book allowed us to see a more empathic version of Temperance Brenan.
