I think if I had read this as a kid I would have loved it. As an adult, I enjoyed it. It's a very well-crafted mystery, and you can see its influence on other mysteries that have been written afterward. I will say that on audio some of the homonyms don't come across as well as they do on the written page, but other than that, it's still solid.

I think this is a good book. I just think I wasn't in the right mind to read it. I was reading it for a book club and that "have to read" feeling when what I wanted was something light and potentially like a romantic comedy was a drawback. I do think this book talks about why therapy is important and the different kinds of people it helps. I wish it had delved a bit more into why people struggle to get in to see therapists, but maybe that would have made the book too long.

Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
It took me a while to get into this book. It's definitely one that plops you in and then just keeps going. I grew to like Murderbot by the end, but It wasn't easy. I'm also not much of a hard sci-fi reader (and honestly, I'm finding reading hard in general right now) so maybe it was partially that? I'll give it another try in a little bit.

A spicy romance about a kindergarten teacher and an engineer. It takes place in Maine and I wasn't having conniptions about setting inaccuracies.
Didn't hold my toddlers' interest as much as I hoped. It does have some nice repetition and animal noises.

A look at a garbage barge in 1987 from New York, and it's attempt to get trash somewhere. it goes to show that we're willing to use all kinds of things, but don't want to deal with the waste from it. I wonder how all our lives would change if we had to actually deal with the offshoots of what we use.
fast-paced
This book takes a few core foods that many kids eat at lunch and goes over how they get from the farmer to the table. The pages feel fairly indestructible, so good for little kids too.
