So I absolutely loved the concept of this novella, and I really liked how the characters' stories were interwoven. The island was the most fascinating, intriguing character, and I wish there was more exploration of it. Unfortunately, we mostly followed the human characters, and I didn't feel like we saw enough of any one to really form a connection.
It made for a very strong first half of the story, when we're introduced to everyone and thing to a lackluster second half when there's nothing new to discover.

What a freaking fun (disturbing) novella! I loved the characters, their dynamics and interactions with each other, the wormholes, and all the worlds explored. So happy that there's at least one other book that I'll be able to read, cause I'm not ready to leave this universe behind yet!

This was a slow, incredibly atmospheric story, filled with flowery prose and a slightly obscure plot. And I loved every moment of it. My favorite parts may have been Imogen's fairy tales, but the sisters' bond was a close second.
The pacing was a bit too slow for my liking and the ending is what I expected. Overall, I'm looking forward to checking out more work by this author.

I had to sit on this one for a bit after finishing it. The first 1/2 of the book was damn near creepy perfection. I loved it. Unfortunately, it had pacing issues in the second half that caused the story to become so disjointed to me, but it didn't feel intentional. I'm definitely interested and plan on picking up other works by this author. The writing and premises of this was good, and I think I'll end up reading a 5 star book by Marshall. It feels inevitable.

The Drowning Kind starts with such an eerie foretelling and maintains a level of tenseness throughout the pages. I felt on edge the entire time, which I loved. With McMahon's signature of telling two tales between timelines that end up interweaving a haunting mystery, this one is definitely a book everyone should pick up soon.
From the characters to the setting, I was immersed immediately into the story and didn't come up for air until well after the final page.

While there were some genuinely creepy parts, on the whole this was pretty predictable. I also felt like it needed to be at least 30-50 more pages to develop some inconsistencies and characters, or it needed to be edited down by about that many pages. There were just several holes in the plot, unnecessary characters and not enough development on the horror elements.
I loved the main character's descent in here though. It was maybe the most ominous part of the story.

Finally got to meet the final Brown sister, and Eve, much like her sisters, was absolutely delightful! Sh was vibrant and such a refreshing character. Loved her in every way. Same goes with her LI, Jacob. They really complemented each other.
Unfortunately, I didn't love the conflict near the end. It felt a bit off from the rest of the book.

This was an absolutely outstanding debut! From the worldbuilding and characters to the lore and magic system, I thought every aspect of this story was perfectly intricate and intriguing! I loved the dual POVs and each voice felt very unique throughout the entire novel. I was never confused as to who I was reading or when. Breathtaking debut, and I cannot wait to see where this story goes from here!

Wow x 1000! This is eerie, dark, and just everything I love in books! The writing is lyrical and at times, so at odds to what's happening in the story. The characters are beautifully bizarre, but what lies beneath the surface of the Hollow Sisters is truly haunting. Obviously, I had to give this one 5 stars!

Possibly the most tense volume yet! So much happens here, including some of the best character arcs to date. We're really seeing all of the ways these characters are transforming, and it's fantastic development! The art is dark and gorgeous as always, and the story is really something special! I just cannot say enough good things about this, but I highly recommend everyone reading this series.
