this isn't easy to review as the book isn't that easy to read.
first off, this is another book written by a musician, max bemis, and accompanied there's a small EP you can download for free if you buy the book (code in the back of the trade). I really like that kind of thing, it adds a new level of...understanding the emotions of the main character.
the whole book is about bipolarity and that makes it difficult in some aspects. I'm not bipolar so I can only try to imagine how that feels. Tim, the main character, is bipolar and somehow gains superpowers whenever he has manic or depressive phases. Moreoever, he is a painter/artist living in Brooklyn and although despising the hipster sphere he is part of, he enjoys this life and admiration he gets for his work. So, for me, he was kind of an condescending asshole, though I haved to admit, his rants and observations are quite funny. Of course, there's a woman he has a crush on and of course there's a conspiracy. The book is a continous up and down of interesting and boring. I get that Bemis did this to empower himself and others with bipolarity, but if you strip this story down, it's a bit generic. I really need to talk to bipolar people about what they think about it.

Wonder Woman, Volume 1: Blood
Tony Akins, Brian Azzarello, Cliff Chiang, Matthew Wilson, Jared K. Fletcher, Dan Green
interesting start of a new story arc. rather gory.
Well, it's a good start into the top cow universe. All the big names are there, Witchblade, The Darkness, Angelus. It's the beginning of a big scheme and of course you need to read on if you want to find out what's behind it. If you decide to read this you have to put up with harsh violence and big breasted women.
On the plus side, there's a ton of bonus material in the back of the book (a lot of covers and an interview wich breaks up the comic into the whys and whats).

nice idea, to turn "beauty" into an STD. I liked it. the book reminded me of an x-files episode. a good one.
jeremy haun's art is a bit flat, though and it's more mystery than horror. but hey, we get to see a penis, that's rare.
seriously, this is an entertaining comic. give it a try.

Another new series by Rick Remender, and again it's totally different in style and setting compared to his other stories (Fear Agent, Low, Deadly Class). However, it's not different in the way how the story progresses. It all starts in a violent and actionpacked way, throwing you head first into an unknown world. After that you (and the main characters) get a time of peace and solitude before everything inevitably goes to shit, leaving you with a mean cliffhanger at the end. This seems to be the Remender formula. And don't get me wrong here, it totally works. "Tokyo Ghost" is as great as all the other stories by Remender. This time though, I was left with a strange feeling of "I have seen this before". So I hope in Volume 2, he surprises me with an unforeseen twist or turn (like he did with Deadly Class).
Story aside, Remender again got an incredible art team. Sean Murphy's drawing style reminded me a bit of "The Maxx", especially in the first part of the book. But with the change of scenery he made me gasp because his panorama shots are so beautiful. Sebastian Girner's coloring turns these drawings into gorgeous pieces of art.

crime noir horror stories are my jam so this one is nearly perfect to me. I wonder how the story continues *buys Vol 2*
short, uplifting story of trans man Kai, taking his first step into transitioning. we need more stories like that!
just. so. good. A book about the troubles of friendship, creaitivy, insecurity, pushing people away, saying sorry and forgiving. <3
