Another new series by Rick Remender, and again it's totally different in style and setting compared to his other stories (Fear Agent, Low, Deadly Class). However, it's not different in the way how the story progresses. It all starts in a violent and actionpacked way, throwing you head first into an unknown world. After that you (and the main characters) get a time of peace and solitude before everything inevitably goes to shit, leaving you with a mean cliffhanger at the end. This seems to be the Remender formula. And don't get me wrong here, it totally works. "Tokyo Ghost" is as great as all the other stories by Remender. This time though, I was left with a strange feeling of "I have seen this before". So I hope in Volume 2, he surprises me with an unforeseen twist or turn (like he did with Deadly Class).

Story aside, Remender again got an incredible art team. Sean Murphy's drawing style reminded me a bit of "The Maxx", especially in the first part of the book. But with the change of scenery he made me gasp because his panorama shots are so beautiful. Sebastian Girner's coloring turns these drawings into gorgeous pieces of art.
