Not as good as the first book but still very enjoyable! I love that Pip continues to use her skills in investigating but I missed her working with Ravi more. I also enjoyed getting more from her friends like Connor but omg Ant and Lauren are rough. I loved the crime podcast too! I’m curious as to what the next book contains after that ending. Pip needs to stay away from danger for awhile and maybe get some help. Oh and very happy Nat came around and likes Pip now.

Nothing like a side of brains with your sorbet! yum. This books opening was super detailed and disgusting in a good way. I was gagging during some of it. I kinda messed up and read this not realizing it was book 3 in the series but think it actually works fine as a standalone. The idea of serial killers that are also cannibals is nothing new but can’t say I’ve heard of an old couple doing it! I enjoyed how Holly investigated and even the realistic aspect of COVID. I do wish it had a bit less of a presence tho, because when i read fiction i want it to feel unreal. Still enjoyed it and think maybe I will go back and read books 1-2.

I absolutely loved this book, with its beautiful writing and prose, literary references, and setting. I loved each character and think that Richard made a good MC to narrate the story. This book had me thinking about it constantly and saving passages in a notebook. Something about the first half of the book felt nostalgic and I was hooked from the start. I think I enjoyed the build up to Bunny’s death more than the fallout but even then I was still engaged. The crash out of Charles was really interesting and sad. I think Tartt writes characters very well and did a good job showing how everything affected them. I loved Francis because a lot of his lines, especially while interacting with Richard, made me laugh when I needed it. Henry’s downfall was the most interesting to me, I had no clue what he would do next because he always seemed like he had a plan. Julian leaving was probably his last straw and I still can’t tell if he ever felt remorse for anything he did or if what he did was wrong (guessing not) but I also feel like he didn’t seem to have much of a reason for living before everything happened. There was still so much I wanted to know from each of the characters and I wish we could’ve seen inside their heads too. This book is a perfect read for fall into winter. I think I will definitely reread this at a later point and see how knowing what happens affects my thoughts. Seriously so good if you like an emotional rollercoaster with intense writing.

A super fun mystery YA read! I loved Pip and Ravi. All the events that unfolded kept me hooked and the characters were so good! I love a strong/ smart female lead and Pip was just that. She definitely got herself into some not so safe situations but it made for a better book. So many twists too! Definitely recommend if you’re looking for something easy and quick to read.

I don’t understand the hate for this book at all! I get a bit of disappointment or unhappiness in how fast/ abrupt the ending seemed but a majority of this book was just as good as the first and entertaining throughout. I loved getting more of the main trio and don’t think I’ll ever get tired of Remy. I also think that this could’ve been a trilogy with a more definitive climax and ending but I was honestly just happy to have more. I feel like we got more of Remy and Zidan in this book which I loved; I saw a lot of people saying they feel like Zidan still doesn’t show his feelings for Remy but i disagree, it’s just part of his personality in how he acts. My favorite parts of this book were Remy interacting in Zidan’s court with the children and the meeting with all the vampire court leaders. I wish Remy could’ve put them in their place tho, but seeing him be all submissive was highly entertaining. I also liked learning more about Remy’s mom and dad and his dad’s redemption. Lastly, I so wanted to see them all get married and REMY DIDNT GET HIS MARRIAGE PRESENT FROM ZIDAN IYKYK.

The first book was a bit more interesting than this one but I enjoyed the change of POV. I also like how this book sets up the next one and am hoping for more from it. Even though there wasn’t as much going on I liked the way the book was written and can tell it’s well thought out. I wish there had been more freaky mysteries like Whitby and the unsettling fact that whoever comes back from those last expeditions are not actually the people that left. I did like the subtle conversations in the halls that Control listens to that are repeated lines that were said by the characters in the first book like the surveyors, that freaked me out. That also hinted at a potential breach already in the southern reach. Also super interesting finding out the psychologist is the director and that she has gone into Area X before, does this mean the her that went on the mission was already changed? or that she had come back as herself. Either way I still have questions that need answering! On to the next book for more clarity.

This book was weird in a good way I think but kinda had no build up or plot building what so ever. It was a lot of scientific observations which I enjoyed and a lot of weird things happening with no explanation what so ever. Maybe these things get cleared up in the rest of the series but it was kind of disorienting lol.I wanted to know exactly what the writing on the wall meant, what “the crawler” actually was and why these transformations and changes were happening. I am also confused on if the biologist is going to die since she was infected by the spores, and if it’s taking longer since it wasn’t as direct or if she’s just immune now and won’t die. Anyway I hope she finds her husband even if it is unlikely. Wild idea for a book though and I do want to know more.

Oh how I love a retelling in gothic horror! This book was definitely a slow one but the language had me hooked. I loved the feeling of hunger invoked throughout and how much blood/ death is a part of Lenore’s life. It feels like the life she had before meeting Carmilla was about forgetting the past and not making any mistakes even if it means having no wants for herself. Loved watching her progress throughout and change her ways of thinking. All the strange incidents with the people Carmilla affected were unsettling and intriguing and made you want to know more. Also love a MC who gets what she wants in the end. Henry got what was coming and what a fun way to go! Lenore is truly a mastermind and I loved the part where she eats the sweet Henry gave her and blows the sugar in his face. This was really such a fun read, with so many lines that were beautifully and horrifically written.

The first book was much better than this one but the humor and characters are so great I still liked it. I was a bit disappointed because it felt like we went a bit backwards in terms of growth in Luc and Oliver’s relationship but there comes challenges in more serious relationships so I guess that makes sense. I think this book focuses more on Oliver’s problems but of course we still have Luc’s normal shenanigans. I loved the wedding theme even if some of the side plots felt unnecessary. Some of the lines that Luc says reminded me of the Ai meme “fuck you.. says the fuck you guy” and had me quietly laughing at work lol. There were a lot of things I didn’t like in this book, like how much Oliver and Luc fought but didn’t seem to resolve their issues…. THE DAMN RAINBOW BALLOON ARCH. Oliver seemed like a hot mess this whole book so I am surprised there’s going to be another one. Also I really liked Oliver’s speech at his dad’s funeral, very fitting and needed to be said. Lastly, what an ending!! omg kinda wild and fitting for them.

I love Maomao. I read this after season 1 and part of season 2 of the anime and definitely think seeing the characters and knowing them helps get into this book. Not sure I would have enjoyed it as much if I didn’t have that background but I definitely loved it and will keep reading. Maomao as a narrator can be somewhat unreliable which I think is so fun. The amount of times she calls Jinshi beautiful or nymph while pared with her looks of disgust/ boredom (or as she would put it like a worm) is so funny. I loved their dynamic through out and can’t wait to read more. I also loved each problem/ mystery Maomao had to work through and feel like the multiple “stories” give such a cozy vibe even if the content is more sad or dark. Anyway! Can’t wait to continue with the next volume and definitely recommend the anime or manga along with the light novels for more context.
