I read Bridge to Terabithia with my almost 9 year old foster son for a book report.
He struggled with it for a while (the dialogue, mostly, plus he thought it was boring at first), but about 2/3 of the way through he really began to love it.
I think this book is great for a young reader -- maybe a bit older than mine, though -- because the messages of overcoming fear, gaining the courage to stand up for yourself, and love and loss are important.
Overall, we both liked Bridge to Terabithia. I loved it more than him because I am of an age that can appreciate it for what it is. It's definitely a book I'd recommend for young readers.

Helix is action packed and kept me on the edge of my seat -- I absolutely adored it!
This is book two in the YA dystopian ISAN series by Mary Ting. The story is told in the dual POVs of Rhett and Ava, which added a lot of depth and gave me more of what I was wanting after the first book -- Rhett!
Mary Ting has a phenomenal writing style and is an amazing story teller. She has created a fascinating world in this series. The stakes are high, the characters are complex, and the romance that's weaved into the story is ridiculously swoon-worthy!
The plot picks up right where ISAN concluded and is just as intense. I like seeing more pieces to this puzzle falling into place. Of course, there is still a lot to be told but the story arc that started at the beginning of book one has continued at a good pace and has left me anxious for book three.
The cast of characters is so fantastic! Not only do I love Rhett and Ava, but the secondary characters are just as interesting as the leads. The friendships are fierce and the bonds are strong!
Overall, I absolutely recommend Helix! This series is one of my favorite YA dystopians, and fans of the genre should enjoy this one!

Did someone say enemies to lovers?! I AM HERE FOR IT!
The Second We Met is a standalone new adult enemies to lovers story and book two in the Fulton U series by Maya Hughes.
This is my first book by this author, but I feel like I need to dive into her back-list because I LOVED this one! Maya has an easy but evocative writing style with good pacing and fantastic characters.
I liked Elle and Nix so much that I didn’t want this story to end. Elle has a lot on her plate — she’s ambitious and has trust issues from being burned in the past. Nix is the golden boy — a star athlete with professional prospects and an over-bearing father. The close proximity (as neighbors and as volunteers on the same project) adds a fun element, and I loved the shift in their relationship as they go from enemies to friends then more. They really are perfect for each other, but it took some bumps and lowering of their guards to get to that realization. The burn is slow but so good!
Overall, I absolutely recommend The Second We Met! This sweet and sexy read is perfect for fans of contemporary sports romance, and what better time to read it than football season!
*Thanks to the author for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. Please note that it, in no way, had an effect on my opinion or review.

Crown of Oblivion is fast-paced and entertaining — a true race to the finish!
The premise for this book is wildly fascinating! Evocative of The Hungar Games, I loved the idea of fighting for a better future (however small the odds) in a harsh reality where everyone is far from equal. It’s loaded with political intrigue and social injustice in a world that’s reminiscent of a dystopian mixed with magic. I wish there was a bit more world-building, but the story was still easy enough to follow.
The plot largely encompasses the race itself — the Race of Oblivion — which is intense, often brutal, and full of twists. It seems like a scavenger hunt à la Caraval but more cutthroat. Because of the manner and rules of the race, it’s hard to know who is trustworthy, which adds to the intrigue.
Astrid is our leading lady, and I really loved her resolve. She stays true to herself, despite having her memory wiped at the beginning of the race, along with the other contestants. With high stakes and low odds, she lays it all on the line. I appreciate her character a lot, and I liked that the race was more than a chance at freedom for her — it’s a journey of self-discovery and an opportunity to fight for what she believes in.
Overall, I recommend Crown of Oblivion to YA Fantasy fans who enjoy stories of political unrest and fighting to beat the odds!

Faker held a lot of potential but, unfortunately, fell quite flat.
This very well may be a case of “it’s not you; it’s me.” There are a lot of great elements to this book: enemies to lovers, office romance, multicultural, romantic comedy. The premise is right up my alley: a cool workplace setting where two people, through a series of misunderstandings, hate each other but come to realize they actually like each other with the help of a little forced proximity. The execution missed the mark for me, though.
I really enjoyed the first quarter or so of this book. However, the pacing in the development of the relationship was quite unbelievable to me. The push and pull that accompanies enemies to lovers is what makes it so enjoyable, in my opinion. However, I feel like there isn’t enough tension here. On a brighter note, there is some fun banter and the steam is turned up!
Overall, Faker just wasn’t my favorite. I know a lot of contemporary romance fans will love this one, especially if they enjoy rom coms, so don’t be afraid to check it out!

The Athena Protocol is completely unexpected but entirely entertaining!
Shamim Sarif has an incredible writing style — effortless and captivating. This diverse YA Action Thriller, told in the point of view of the lead, Jessie, is fast paced and dynamic! The story gave me some Charlie’s Angels or gender bent James Bond vibes, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I mean, we have a group of female spies who are fighting against the oppression of women — it’s awesome!
I had a love/hate relationship with Jessie. I liked her resolve, passion, and sarcasm! However, she is young and it showed, despite being a trained operative. She is blinded by her emotions a lot, which I think makes her relatable while simultaneously making me want to shake some sense into her! I should note that Jessie is surrounded by a great cast of secondary characters — I particularly liked her Athena teammates.
Overall, The Athena Protocol is a great book! This was not on my radar before receiving a copy, but I’m glad I read it and am now happy to recommend it.

Twice in a Blue Moon is a good read but wasn’t entirely a hit for me — likeable but not loveable!
I truly love Christina Lauren’s writing! I appreciate how seamlessly they write as a duo and always find their style(s) easy and evocative. Told in the POV of the leading lady, Tate, this is a story of first love, betrayal and heartbreak, second chance romance, and redemption.
Although I found this to be beautifully written, there was some kind of disconnect for me that I can’t entirely explain. Some of my issues were that I found the shift in the story from Tate’s past to her present-day life a bit jarring, I was never completely invested in the characters, and I wanted more from the romance.
I absolutely adored the present day setting, the behind the scenes of making the film, and learning the story behind the script. The story within the story is simultaneously heartwarming and heartbreaking — it is probably my favorite aspect of this book.
Overall, I didn’t love Twice in a Blue Moon, but I also didn’t hate it. I know there are a lot of readers who will thoroughly enjoy this one, especially if they are fans of CLo’s Love and Other Words.

Strap in, guys — you’re in for a ride with CHASING HIM, the 3rd book in the Bishop Brothers series, by Kennedy Fox! John’s story is an emotional roller coaster that I couldn’t help but get on after loving the first two books so immensely.
The books in the Bishop Brothers series can be read as standalones, but let me recommend that you read them all — you don’t want to miss one second with the Bishops! I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the entire family through this series. I honestly can’t say which brother is my favorite because each of their stories is utterly amazing!
In CHASING HIM, John’s life is thrown for a loop when a little baby girl shows up unexpectedly with a note explaining that she is his! Things are already hectic for him with running the family B&B, but this surprise adds a whole different level to his chaos. He takes on his new role as father, but it proves to be a lot, so he, with the influence of his dear Mama, enlists the help of a nanny; the “baby whisperer” recently arrived from Georgia.
YOU GUYS! I love Mila! After trying to escape a situation back home, she heads to the great state of Texas for some QT with her grandmother when she is approached about helping John. She is perfect for the job! However, neither realize how difficult it might be to work with someone they’re so undeniably attracted to!
I adore a good slow burn romance, and Kennedy Fox nails it in CHASING HIM! John & Mila’s relationship gave me ALL THE FEELS! He is reserved and she is sassy, but they both have hearts of gold and care so much for baby Maize. When they finally give in to their feelings, the chemistry is unquestionable! You just need to read the book to find out where their relationship goes.
I need to take a second to love on Mama Bishop! I’m pretty sure she should come with a similar tagline as the state in which she lives — “Don’t mess with Texas!” I would never mess with Mama Bishop! She is a fierce supporter of her family who will fight for the ones she loves. Outside of the boys themselves, she is my favorite character!
CHASING HIM is gripping! It’s sweet but raw, and there’s funny banter paired with a lot of emotion! The characters face the harshness of reality. Things aren’t always easy, but they can be easier with the right person by your side.
Overall (in case you didn’t see this coming), of course I recommend CHASING HIM by KF! Romance readers, fans of slow burns, and readers that enjoy a story with strong family values will all love this one. CHASING HIM is available now, so go check it out. And, keep an eye out for the final Bishop brother’s story coming soon!

First, I love Kennedy Fox! They always give me the perfect dose of sexy and sweet, and I have enjoyed every single book that I’ve read by them! Keeping Him was no exception.
The Bishop Brothers series has given me compelling characters and swoon-worthy stories. I honestly can’t say which brother or couple is my favorite! I can, however, say that Mama Bishop raised her boys right…and obviously has great genes!
Keeping Him is the friends-to-lovers story of Jackson and Kiera. Let me tell you…it was well worth the wait! KF has been sprinkling little bits of Jackson and Kiera around for a while, so the anticipation was REAL for me. We got multiple POVs and flashbacks that really helped to give the readers a new perspective on the characters and their lives.
Jackson is a playboy oozing confidence and Kiera is sassy and smart! They’ve been friends for fifteen years while hiding their true feelings for each other. Their friendship is the sweetest, and it’s obvious they’re perfect for each other! Kiera doesn’t want to wait around forever till Jackson figures it out or acts on his feelings, though, so when her boyfriend asks her to marry him, she says “yes.” This just screams “RECIPE FOR ANGST!”
Gahhh I can’t even put into words all the feelings I have right now about this book! It truly was everything! There was growth and conflict and love and sweat! Books like this are why friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes.
Overall, if you think I’m not going to recommend this book, you’re crazy! Go get it now! Not just Keeping Him, but the whole series, because you need to get to know and love each of the Bishop brothers like I have. Contemporary romance with a little southern drama is exactly what you’re getting here!

I am obviously a fan of Kennedy Fox! I love how seamlessly Brooke and Lyra write as a duo to create such sexy, fun reads. I really enjoyed their Checkmate Series, but 2 books in and I am obsessed with the Bishop Brothers Series! If someone is looking for an Adult Romance, I will gladly recommend a Kennedy Fox book.
I live for good character development, and Kennedy Fox nails it! …not only in an individual book, but across their series. Devout readers were first introduced to the Bishop family in the Checkmate Series, and now we are getting to know them on a much deeper level, which I love! I thought I fell for these characters in TAMING HIM, but I fell even further after NEEDING HIM.
TAMING HIM was a phenomenal start to this series and ended with a sneak peek at NEEDING HIM. Readers knew we were in for some fun based on that preview! I was definitely anticipating this read, and I was not disappointed. My absolute favorite literary trope is enemies-to-lovers/hate-to-love, and I could not have been happier to have had that for Evan’s story. The hate-to-love was believable and well executed!
Evan *insert heart eye emoji* I have to admit that I was not expecting him to be quite the way he was (sorry, that’s all you get because I want to keep this spoiler free), but I loved how DIRTY his character was! Emily’s character was also amazing. She is one of my favorite KF females, if not THE favorite for me. Their chemistry was so on point!
This book has all the things readers enjoy about a KF read and then some! Honestly, I didn’t think I would love a Bishop more than Alex or a book in this series more than TAMING HIM, but NEEDING HIM was so so good!
