The Athena Protocol is completely unexpected but entirely entertaining!

Shamim Sarif has an incredible writing style — effortless and captivating. This diverse YA Action Thriller, told in the point of view of the lead, Jessie, is fast paced and dynamic! The story gave me some Charlie’s Angels or gender bent James Bond vibes, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I mean, we have a group of female spies who are fighting against the oppression of women — it’s awesome!

I had a love/hate relationship with Jessie. I liked her resolve, passion, and sarcasm! However, she is young and it showed, despite being a trained operative. She is blinded by her emotions a lot, which I think makes her relatable while simultaneously making me want to shake some sense into her! I should note that Jessie is surrounded by a great cast of secondary characters — I particularly liked her Athena teammates.

Overall, The Athena Protocol is a great book! This was not on my radar before receiving a copy, but I’m glad I read it and am now happy to recommend it.
