The Lager Queen of Minnesota by J. Ryan Stradal was a book I recently really enjoyed. I loved the whole brewery and beer aspect! I learned more about beer which was so interesting. I also loved the writing and the characters. This book spans generations of women in a family and how their lives fully intertwine, even without them realizing. It was definitely my kind of story.
True Confession: I enjoy watching the occasional Hallmark-type or Netflix Christmas movie, but when it comes to reading, I need more.
Christmas Camp’s beautiful cover caught my attention last year. But this book is just like reading a Hallmark movie - in fact the author has actually written screenplays of those movies! So, I didn’t really enjoy it much but I did finish it. It was still a festive read and it made me reflect on holiday traditions and it had all the vibes.

Mara doesn’t really act anymore, preferring to write and stay behind the scenes. This is her story of why, and given what she shares, I can understand it. It was a genuine, authentic and sometimes sad memoir that presented just as many hardships as triumphs.
’ve said this before and I’ll say it again...I rarely read YA novels anymore. But if I do, they have to be hard-hitting contemporaries OR a book by Sarah Dessen. Enter Michigan vs. The Boys by Carrie
This book was recommended by @booksandlala , my favourite Booktuber. It follows Michigan, a teenager who makes the local boys hockey team after her girls team gets cut due to lack of funding at her high school. She experiences all kinds of foul treatment from the boys on the team. It doesn’t seem to matter that she’s one of their best players. The more she shines on the team, the worse it gets for her.
This book was excellent. It was hard-hitting and emotional. I can’t imagine having to deal with this type of discrimination in order to play a sport that you love. I know this book is based on truths in the world of women’s sports and I hope that one day this type of behaviour or story won’t exist for a woman athlete.

The Forest City Killer by Vanessa Brown was the first true crime book I’ve ever read, and it was SO GOOD! I couldn’t put it down. The writing is amazing. It is the perfect blend of narrative and factual. I still can’t believe this all happened in my own backyard 50 years ago, and I had no idea until reading this book.
If you live in the London, Ontario area OR if you are just looking for a gripping true crime read, check this book out!

I loved finding out more about her time filming Mary Poppins and Sound of Music, two of my favourite musical movies! This book only covered Julie’s life until 1986 so I’m still hoping for a third memoir!
I didn’t enjoy this book at all. There were parts where I questioned why I was reading it. But, it’s for book club so I powered through! I’m not even sure if the book tops the movie in this case, because both were flops to me. I didn’t like the characters or the story. I thought the characters were flat. Would teenagers really venture out in such a bad snowstorm? Would they really get off a broken down train? I don't know! But it's too ridiculous to me. If I had to choose one story from it, I’d say Maureen Johnson’s was my top choice. I'm still not a fan of John Green. And Lauren Myracle is too juvenile a writer for my tastes.
I finally read Where the Crawdads Sing! I meant to read this in 2019 and I kept putting it off. But here we are in January 2020 and reading it is complete. However, my opinion may be unpopular here because I didn’t love it.
