I had originally thought this was going to be like the Thursday murder club then quickly had to change my expectations to a badass miss marple.
I had a feeling we were touching on some strangers on a train where a kills for b who kills who c who kills for a when there was comment on how they could not identify a link. And I love strangers on a train so i and always glad to see that trope.
medium-paced

It has been awhile since I read the first book so there were some things I had forgotten when I got ready to listen to this book, which is the second in the series. In a otherwise consistent line of what happens if we have a ya romance mixed with a dystopian society, this story throws in “hey girls are kept as household pets.” Like the first book this ended set to pick up Ella’s story in the third book for the conclusion.
dark tense slow-paced

I think of that scene in the second season of the it crowd where Matt berrys character is trying to guess the twist in the opening credits of a Tarantino movie while shouting things like “he’s his own father.” That’s me. That’s me reading this book and others like it. The build up was slow…I want to say the first forty percent of this book which gave me time to make all kinds of out there guesses in my attempt to guess the twist.
while I didn’t guess that the doctor wasn’t the doctor, I am giving myself partial points for guessing Amy hallucinations wanted her to kill everyone.
once the pace picked up in the final half of this book each chapter ended with a new cliffhanger. This was the first book I read by the author and while I enjoyed it, I more enjoy thrillers that don’t have such a drawn out opening. After all the twist is never going to be that he’s his own father.

This one will be sitting with me for awhile. It touched on one of the darkest times in histories and was based on a real person..a person who I had previously never heard of. This book could easily send you down the rabbit hole googling this name and that name. I wanted so much for everyone to get the ending they deserved, but I know that is not how it works.
poor Dana. And Leon. But I am glad that gita and lale got to be together. I can’t call it a happy ending in the typical happy ending….but a loving ending for them.
fast-paced

This was so good. I loved Tim Gunn. All the cast was great and the story moved at a good pace. Even though it wasn’t I pictured Kathy Najimy as one of the bards.
slow-paced
Loveable characters: No

I guess I’ll start with the pros: 1. Short. 2. Had a pun in the title. That’s all. This novella seems to have fallen victim to unlikable characters. The main character/narrator was just overly irritating. I love amateur sleuths usually (awh, Minnie Hamilton you are your cat are tops) but this was…well when everyone kept telling her to let the police do their job, I found myself actually wishing she would listen. Sorry but how do you decide you can join the sheriff in arresting the murderer? Girl..stay in the car. Actually, stay home.

DID NOT FINISH: 5%

Borrrrring it was chapter three and I had no idea what was happening but I couldn’t be bothered to restart and figure it out. What a snooze fest of a story

This was super fun. What a delightful group of aunties and a delightful main character. It’s the first book in the series and took only two days to read. I am already ready to order the second book. Often times laugh out loud!
