This cute book about playing in the snow includes a whole troop of cousins who have to coordinate their snow day games, trust in God to protect them when things get scary, and ultimately take care of one another and laugh along the way.
I loved the cartoony illustrations and the bright colors. The pictures really enhance the story and draw the reader into the snow day fun!
I didn't like that there are so many characters in this story, but I think they are based on the author's actual grandchildren, so I can overlook it. There are just too many names to remember them all!
The narrative tends to over-describe every detail, instead of just telling a concise story. But I liked the games the children play, the way they interact and laugh together, and the parents involvement in their children's play day. The whole story is silly and fun, with some serious moments of prayer, and some good Bible lessons about love and trust.
This would be a great gift for children aged 5-8!

This book has a cute way of telling the creation story from Genesis, but the structure of the book, the illustrations, and the poetry all have problems.
The punctuation is all over the place, so that I can't tell where one sentence begins and another one ends. It makes it difficult to read. There are also some poetry problems, since the meter doesn't match in each stanza, making it feel disjointed.
I'm not too sure about some of the doctrine either, since it says that Eve was created "on a whim". Granted, the author was just trying to find something that rhymed with "him", but that's no excuse for sloppy doctrine.
The illustrations are sort of confusing. The only part we see of God is his "hands," but the hands look like the ends of bones. Just a U-shaped, two-pronged end on the arm, instead of fingers. It looks like the end of a femur bone! Not sure about that. The bony hands of God!! haha!
The creatures that are created- birds, animals, and fish- look like weird monstery blob things with eyes. Not sure what they are most of the time. Very confusing.
The cover is a collection of snapshots of the illustrations in the book, but it looks so busy that I can't focus on anything. It doesn't really appeal to me.
Each page has a wide border that looks like old manuscript paper, which is cool, but it's so wide that it takes up half the page, and minimizes the illustrations and text.
I think that with some better design and a good copy editor to correct the punctuation, this could be a cute book!

I loved this sweet children's picture book, and I was so impressed with the story and the positive Christian messages! The illustrations are beautiful, and there is a little Christian fish symbol hidden on every page! How cool is that?! I had so much fun looking for each little symbol.
Each of the little fish on the playground have their own individual personalities, and the story really shows how they interact in a special way.
One little fish, Melissa, is always bragging about things and making a nuisance of herself. Her friend, Cory, decides that instead of being mad at her, he will try to help her feel better about herself. All the little fish in the class come together to help their friend, and learn a lesson along the way. It's an age-old story, but it's told in such a unique way and with such charm, that it actually made me cry and laugh!

I am so enchanted with this beautiful story of a broken unborn butterfly who is still worth saving, even though his little wing is damaged! This is a charming and original way to teach children about the sanctity of life!
Pat the Gnat sees a broken butterfly cocoon and wants to destroy it, but he decides that all life matters. Later on he meets the damaged butterfly after it is born from its cocoon, they become friends, and Pat the Gnat learns that God values all life, and so should we. The positive messages and spiritual truths are perfectly blended with a cute tale of insect friendship!
The illustrations are beautifully charming, and have a soothing effect since the edges are smooth and the colors are a little muted.
Action and adventure are balanced with the more serious parts of the book in a fluid story arc, creating a well-rounded narrative.
I was immediately drawn to the various characters, especially since the illustrations bring out their unique qualities. That Pat the Gnat is just so cute!!

This little book has changed my life in one moment. Full of Scripture, it really cuts to the heart of what we believe about ourselves. I'll be re-reading this one a few times. What a massive blessing!

Johnny's grandmother sews a new pair of pants for him, and hangs them up on the line to dry. But the wind is so strong that it blows the pants away, and Johnny is terribly disappointed. Johnny and his sisters get into mischief on the farm and have little adventures, until one day the peddler comes to the farm with a surprise.
I love this book so much! I read it over and over when I was a little girl. Johnny is so mischievous and full of energy. I love all the characters, from the delightful grandmother to the littlest sister. Their grandmother tells them stories about the days of the Civil War when her mother quilted a Liberty Quilt. Johnny's father remembers the shenanigans he got into when he was a boy, and realizes how he and Johnny are so similar.
This book always makes me laugh! There are so many funny scenarios and crazy plot twists as Johnny gets into ridiculous conundrums; like when he hides in the old oven during hide and seek, but gets stuck inside!
The writing has a wonderful old-fashioned charm, and there are some nice illustrations for each chapter. Such a fun book!

I love how this devotional book is divided by topic, so that whatever difficulty you may be having in life, you can turn to that topic and receive encouragement. The Scripture verses are a mixture of NIV, the Message, and NKJV.
Each topic has five or six passages of Scripture that pertain to the subject. I found this book wonderfully inspiring! It would make a lovely gift for any teen.
