we laughed, we cried, what a great time we had!
this book got surprisingly deep, but i think that made me love it more. these characters are so complex and beautiful that i think i’d read a full-length novel about them going grocery shopping and give it five stars.
it was also so poignant and powerful in ways i never expected. yes, this is a romantic contemporary novel. yes, it reminded me how strong and resilient the human spirit is. yes, you should read it.

so obviously, this book was PHENOMENAL. I'm going to digest it and everything that happened and get a review up by tomorrow night. and it's official: MM is my favorite author. ever.
I just....
my thoughts are a jumbled mess, and the only thing I can think right now is: I've never been happier to be assigned a book.

there is no better cure for the quarantine blues than this book
At this point, I should just assume that books by Ruta Sepetys will make me sob.
Seriously. I was crying for the last, like, 50 pages. The story starts off a little confusing, but not in a way that just puzzles you in an annoying way. The four narrators offered different perspectives on the events that the story is even more captivating than Between Shades of Gray or Out of the Easy, because you have even more characters to fall in love with, root for, despise, or cry for. Like, seriously cry. I cannot express how important this book is. Your next actions: If you haven't already, BUY THIS BOOK. Read it. Probably cry a lot. Finish it and stare off into the distance for a while, contemplating history. Praise Ruta Sepetys for her amazing talent.
Infinite stars. Would recommend to anyone.

4.75/5 stars
I started this book last night, and just finished it! I am so happy with how it ended (no real tie-up, so I realllly want Scarlet now) and I loved the characters! Although it was slightly predictable I was still being surprised by the plot twists being thrown out. I'm not super into fairy tales, but these kind of retellings are just so fun to read!
