A good read for adults with some life experience. Focuses heavily on the end of her marriage to her husband and how her relationship with her wife developed. Specifically, this is a book for a mother who is trying to find her way in the world.
This may have been a four-star read if it were not for the chapter on racism (which I skipped) and the chapter later on in the book in regards to God and religion. It sounds like Doyle is a very religious person, or was at one point and is something she struggles with.

It is a Presidental Memoir. Nothing to really write home about. In 2008 when he became President I was 24. So I was a full-fledged adult during his presidency. It was interesting to learn about the campaign trail and some of the in and outs of being a President but otherwise, I was unimpressed. The only thing that kept me listening was the fact that Obama speaks so well - I could listen to him all day long, and I did for 29 hours.
From my understanding, there is a second book to follow this up. I think I will enjoy that one more because A Promised Land ended with the takedown of Bin Laden so I would imagine another book would focus on the second half of his presidency and thereafter. Honestly, I am more interested in the after the presidency part.
I went into this thinking it was going to be like Michelle's book, Becoming which I loved and that was not the case. Anyone who is young than I am (currently pushing 40) who goes on and on about how great this book is is full of it. At 29 hours I doubt many people actually even read it cover to cover.

An okay read. All good until I got to the end. It was rather lackluster.
An eye opener. You follow the author as he prepares for his adventure to the Amazon (both physically and emotionally). His 4,000 mile and three day travel to the Amazon basin. As he indulges in the Ayahuasca rituals and then becomes both mentally and physically ill from it. And you watch him come full circle and decipher what he saw those late nights in the jungle.
An awesome book if you've ever asked yourself who am I? How do I fit? And what do I do now? This is Titan Raines's story...

The journey continues with the long awaited Cotton Comes to Holland. It is everything you would expect from Titain Raines and then some. As a follow up to Sol on Ice, you go deeper into his personal growth. Written with style and humor you can't help but wonder, what is this man going to do next?! Page turner that I just could not put down.
From the get go he warns that he does not condone or promote the use of drugs. So, from the start you're wondering what makes him do what he does. As the title suggests, you can promise to read about Sex and Drugs in Holland. And then laugh your ass off as an married American male deals with these various situations. With the humor comes the adventure; the scary side of taking drugs while alone in your hotel room.
There's not much more I can say without including spoilers. So, JUST READ IT! If you read Sol on Ice, I can promise you that you'll enjoy this one just as much, if not more.

It was long. And after awhile the story just got old. Very lifetime movie ish.
A really great book about motherhood. And not abut how wonderful it is either. This author, who lost her own mother at a relatively young age, never wanted to be a mother. It's hard to explain to someone what it's truly like to be a mother, both physically and mentally. I'm not generally a fan of books on motherhood because I find those authors paint the picture a little too rosy from my experience. What gets left out is the day to day "struggle" which is illustrated so perfectly I can't see a real mother not enjoying.
I obviously can only really recommend this book for mothers. More specifically mothers of young children. If you are anything other than this person - don't bother.

I never thought I was all that great to begin with so this maybe missed the mark on me. But still some insightful information.
