jennadianne 's review for:
A Promised Land
by Barack Obama
It is a Presidental Memoir. Nothing to really write home about. In 2008 when he became President I was 24. So I was a full-fledged adult during his presidency. It was interesting to learn about the campaign trail and some of the in and outs of being a President but otherwise, I was unimpressed. The only thing that kept me listening was the fact that Obama speaks so well - I could listen to him all day long, and I did for 29 hours.
From my understanding, there is a second book to follow this up. I think I will enjoy that one more because A Promised Land ended with the takedown of Bin Laden so I would imagine another book would focus on the second half of his presidency and thereafter. Honestly, I am more interested in the after the presidency part.
I went into this thinking it was going to be like Michelle's book, Becoming which I loved and that was not the case. Anyone who is young than I am (currently pushing 40) who goes on and on about how great this book is is full of it. At 29 hours I doubt many people actually even read it cover to cover.
