Batman Caballero Oscuro III: La raza superior
Klaus Janson, Eduardo Risso, Brian Azzarello, Andy Kubert, Frank Miller, John Romita Jr.
I'll be honest. I thought this was gonna be pure shit. I don't like The Dark Knight Returns and Frank Miller is a hit or miss. Especially his Batman now days hasn't been to my liking (All Star Batman was just...wow) However I took a gamble and read this bad boy. You know whaT? Not half bad.
The story starts off with Batman being dead. Well not really but you know that. Then Atom unleashes a army of Kryptians and with the help of Superman/Wonder Woman's daughter they begin to release hell on earth. Batman steps up and is like "Nah bro, not this time" and unfreezes a frozen Superman. Then the war for the master Race Begins!
What I liked: The pacing up until issue 6 was great. I also thought the ending was really strong. To watch Batman and Superman (And others) team up was great. I actually ENJOYED Bruce's monologue in this. The fights were both brutal and powerful and entertaining throughout.
What I didn't like: The art sometimes was good, sometimes awful. Also the issue 7-8 were kind of mehs in comparison to the rest. I also thought Green lantern subplot was...weird? And just not all that interesting.
Overall this was a welcomed surprise. Fun, entertaining, little messy in execution but easily Frank's best work in years. Funny enough I like it more than Returns. Yeah fight me. FUCK YOU! No but really, this was solid shit. A 3 out of 5.

Hold up, stop the beat a minute. I got something to say. Jason, I wanna tell you this shit right now while this fucking weed is in me. I don't know if I ever told you this, but I FINALLY love A thor title, so now I got your back. Just know this shit.
Sorry, had the chronic 2001 in my car this morning while I was thinking of how to review this. So anyway...Thor has been a hit or miss with me. Even the exciting "Godbomb" arc was "Good" but not "Great" for me. I've never liked Thor much. He's one of the least interesting characters for me. Maybe because I don't care about "Gods" all that much. They kind of just are there. However, when Jason jumped over to having Jane take over I was excited. Why? She's a mortal. This to me is far more interesting.
This arc really jumps right into the heart of what this series is about. I think this is a good extension to previous volumes while being a great jump on point. You get to know Jane personally, her fight with her cancer, while also learning of what's happening in the other realms. You get Loki back which is always fun. All hell is breaking loose and the volume ends on a surprising downer to set up the rest of the series.
What I liked: Stakes feel very real. As in people die, lose homes, and life is short. Jane's personal struggles with cancer are great and since I'm writing my own story with a hero dealing with the same sickness I like to see it done well and luckily it is. The art is fucking stunning at times and some of the fights are beyond epic. Loki is both funny and charming, but also a asshole, and makes for a very welcomed addition to the series.
What I disliked: It can be a lot to take in. Wedding, betrayal, lots of realms. It's still confusing to me and I've read EVERY single issue of Jason Aaron run of Thor.
Overall this is a kickass, fun, action packed series worth checking out. Jane as Thor is just fucking boss and even with some on the nose dialog she is proving to be a awesome wielder. Also, the ending gets you excited for what is to come. Will read more!

Superman/Wonder Woman, Volume 2: War and Peace
José Marzán Jr., Vicente Cifuentes, Sandu Florea, Tomeu Morey, Jack Herbert, Matt Banning, Charles Soule, Ulises Arreola, Tony S. Daniel, Dezi Sienty, Jeromy Cox, Andrew Dalhouse, Walden Wong, Pascal Alixe, Ed Benes, Carlos M. Mangual, Tony Aviña, Sal Cipriano, Paulo Sequira, Rags Morales, Cliff Richards, Jaime Mendoza, Thony Silas, Taylor Esposito, Rob Leigh
WOW this was HORRIBLE. Confusing, messy, boring are all the words that come to mind. So the first volume was fun, made sense, and had good dialog. Throw that all out for this shitty crossevent of Superman becoming doomsday light, and you get this damn story. Then you get a invasion, which is equally as messy, confusing, and boring. Like damn, who the fuck put this together or made it?
What I liked: Uhhh the bearded clark was cool...that's it.
What I didn't like: The plot made no sense. Huge chunks missing from the story. Art felt a downgrade. What the fuck was that ending? Doomsday superman is utterly STUPID.
The less I think about this title the better. Fuck this. I will try volume 3 though.

Man, I really want to read a "mindblowing" X-Men comic. It's been so long...I can't even remember a 5 out of 5 X-Men comic. Anyhow, this is Wolverine and the X-Men. Everyone loves Wolverine right? Oh you're mad he gets to much spotlight. Well fuck you. He about to be a goddamn teacher and you're gonna have to love it.
So Wolverine has taken over being a teacher. Fun times! We have Kitty and Iceman as supporting cast of teachers helping Wolverine run the school. Now, we just have a bunch of kids I NEVER heard of coming to the school and the X-Men we grew up with and love basically becoming teachers. This is actually a neat idea, but is it well done?
What I liked: The humor is pretty solid. Not always a hit but all in good nature. I really like Wolverine and Kitty in here. Iceman kind of felt off but I got use to it. I also enjoyed some of the new students. Also little baby nightcrawler creatures are fucking amazing.
What I didn't like: The art felt odd. I know a lot of people like this guy but I just didn't get it. It was jumbled and confusing. Also the story starts off very generic and only by the end gets way better. If you never read a X-Men title I don't think this is a great jumping on point. You'll probably be confused as hell.
This was fun and enjoyable but I couldn't help but feel I wanted more. Especially from Jason Aaron who is obviously a talented writer. I'll give volume 2 a chance down the line though.

This "New Krypton" storyline isn't half bad. The first volume felt very off because first half had really NOTHING to do with it. It was Jimmy's story. However, the second half was all about Superman bringing his people back into the world. This carries that on where choices have to be made and it's not so easy.
The big war here is Superman trying to keep the peace between the world heroes like the Justice League and the Kryptons. See, a few of them went ahead and kill a couple of police. This obviously isn't right and the world wants answers. Then the kryptions get attacked and they fight back. Now it's a big war and they have to figure out some type of peace agreement. However, after a death that doesn't look like it'll happened.
What I liked: The fights are pretty entertaining in this. Some shots are gorgeous, especially the covers. I loved the different processes they had between the humans and Kyrptons. It was very excited to see the political fights for me. Oh and how awesome was Superman getting pissed at people?
What I didn't like: Lex storyline feels filler and boring. I also really disliked how dumb supergirl was in the end. Felt out of character. Some of the art dips and it's REALLY awful with the faces at times.
Overall this is solid fun but not amazing. Still, it's a interesting idea and I'll be keeping up with this one till the end probably.

X-men, X-Men, X-Men. I was on a roll awhile back reading the whole Bendis run of X-men. To my surprise I enjoyed quite a bit. Especially volume 2-3. Sure 4 was a miss, but then months and months later I decided to jump back on to finish it. Volume 5! Here we go.
So you thought it was confusing bringing the old x-men back with the kids version huh? Let's add in future x-men coming to current time to kill the current time (though wouldn't that have a chance of killing their future self?) SO yeah, confusion 101. We have the son of Xavier and I believe Mystique/wolverine? And they hunt the X-men!
What I liked: Loved the fights. Cyclops has a perticular badass moment even. The dialog between some characters, especially Jean, Kitty, Scott, and Iceman are all solid. The quiet moment with Angel/Laura was sweet and really played to both characters in positive ways. The art is still solid and a lot of great moments in action.
What I didn't like: Why is cyclops suddenly good? Not reading a cross event to find out. Also, holy hell, what in the fuck was that design for Xavier? Why was he bald like his father? That was dumb. Also some of the dialog, while fun, can drag and some characters talk more than they should, doesn't fit their characters.
Overall, All-New X-men has been fun throughout. I didn't really hate any. Sure, some of it is wonky and confusing, and writing can be iffy, but it's atleast never BORING. That's a plus for me. Well on to Uncanny volume 4!

Well I knew it would eventually happen. After 3 enjoyable volumes of Batman/Superman we'd get to one pretty bad volume. I know a lot of people aren't inlove with this series, which is fine. I however enjoyed most of it. Especially the Batman/Superman moments. This volume though? Talk about a super strong start and a REALLY bad ending.
So the first half is all about Superman hunting a enemy that is truly fucking up his life. Batman labels this person as the JOKER for Superman. Sounds scary huh? IT IS. It's perfect. Then it dwindles down by the end. The second arc is pretty awful and honestly I barely remember anything from it.
What I liked: The first two issues are great. Pacing, tension, art, all top notch. Then it takes a sudden nose dive.
What I didn't like: The whole second half is a bore and honestly extremely skippable. Also the "reveal" of superman's joker was SUPER underwheleming. Also Lobo looks like a fucking moron but not that down because the 90's version looks stupid too.
This was a huge downer in this series. Hoping last two volumes least decent!

This was...okay. It was pretty good at parts. I really think Peter needed to take over because Soule lost his way after volume 1. This one is MUCH more focused. It's just a single storyline you can stay with without reading all the other bullshit that comes with it. Doomsday volume was horrible so this is a huge step up but not enough to be great.
This volume opens up with Lois and Clark out on a date. Bad shit goes down and they're saved by Wanderman! Never heard of him? Don't worry, nobody has. However, someone is pulling the strings and we have a war! Actually the whole volume is one big fight with some love life relationship advice spicing it up.
What I liked: The fights are fun and look good for sure. The dialog is snappy and easy to read. I like Lois and Clark even though it feels a little rehash it works. I also really LIKED Wanderman or whatever till the twist. The pacing was also solid and never bored.
What I didn't like: Saying I was never bored it never blew me away either. The whole thing was painfully average. Fun but not all that exciting? I also thought the villain was boring and needed more work to get me to care.
Overall it's around a 2.5. It's not great, it's not bad, just right in the middle. Readable, fun at times, but you can't help but wish it was just a tad bit better.

This is a much more somber volume. We have time to relax and breath. Gantz is usually high end, death everywhere, and boobs flopping around type of Manga. However, what happens when we put that to the side and give some characters introductions and growth? We get Gantz Volume 10 which might be one of the better ones.
Kei finishes the fight from the last volume and let's just say he's using his brains to win instead of just going all out. It's a great ending but what comes next is better. Him settling with his girlfriend and appreciating the small things. Then we're introduced to a new character who wants to die but instead meets a person who gives him the power of Telekinesis. Interesting to say the least. Then we end it with a growth for our main hero.
What I liked: Giving Kei time to grow and become a hero. It's working. The finale of the last boss battle was great. Less fan service bullshit and sex actually felt powerful and not to jerk off to. Also the new character is pretty interesting and can become a hero or villain. The ending also leaves us with some hope.
What I disliked: Holy hell batman does Hiroya Oku have to always have a guy getting his dick sucked by another guy in a rape fashion? Every Manga I read has this. I'm just wondering if this is a fetish of somesort. Bullying is already screwed up, mouth rape isn't needed. Also the new character took a bit to get used to.
Overall I really enjoyed this volume despite my two complaints. It's giving us a lot more to take in, some great fighting moments, and a main character who is finally evolving. Let's hope it keeps this up!

Well fuck me silly, despite the hate Bendis run gets, I had a fucking fantastic time reading this volume. This is the first time Uncanny X-men made me excited throughout. Why? Because we going to WAR baby! Well for like 2-3 issues but still.
Scott is like still a dick, but you kind of feel for the dude...kind of. And Maria Hill is like "Listen Dawg you need to chill" but Scott is just like "Nah man, you fucked with my people, I got my EYE on you. LASER EYE!" Oh shit snap and crackle with a pop. So then after Scott tells Hill to basically fuck off he goes after the X-men and bam boom bang it begins. However, this is also a tie in to Original Sin. What's that you say? That's that crossover event when everyone has a big secret that'll change the life of everyone! Xavier has a couple and it brings all our favorite x-men together from Wolvie, to Cyclops, To Kitty and more!
What I liked: Man oh man Scott being a total prick is entertaining as hell. Also, how great was that moment when the X-men go visit Scott and his people with their 4 man team and Scott comes out with like 25 and they don't give a flying fuck. Iceman can own you all bitch. Oh and then the whole "Twist" actually worked here. And it's conflicting too because who is bad who is good really? By the end it got me excited for the direction of this series.
What I didn't like: The twist on the culprit behind the attacks is a little meh. Also, the time traveling thing is getting a bit much on that end.
Overall this was entertaining, well paced, and one of the better tie in event comics. I really loved the ending and it got me hyped to see where it's going. Haters gonna hate, but Bendis, I like. That's what matters <3
