I actually really enjoyed a lot of this. So something happened (I dunno what) and millions of people just vanished. Superman wasn't there to stop it, and even though he doesn't know if he could have, he blames himself. He was off helping Kyle in space and when he got back Lois was gone. This drove him to ask some serious questions so he visits a priest to try and figure it out. As he recalls the events you get to see Superman in a different way. Not evil or anything but starting to question what he does and why.
Superman can be a very complex figure. When one doesn't have much to fear but the loss of others what does that make a man when he actually loses those things. I think Superman dialog with the priest really brought up some logical questions we would ask if a Alien came to earth and was willing to protect us. Why? Would be our biggest question.
This volume also deals with Superman going over boarders and trying to stop a revolution of sorts. Except it already happened. Yet we find out it's not as simple as protecting or saving but what happened and finding the very weapon that makes people disappear. Superman then has to make a few choices that will effect others.
What I liked: All of the priest dialog with Superman was super interesting for me. I loved Superman questioning things and not so easy to answer. I also LOVE the fucking art. Jim Lee is got to be top 5 artist of all time. Like holy hell it's amazing. Also really enjoyed the parts with Superman deciding to deal with the creature (forgot his name, sorry!) and laying the beatdown. You don't see Superman pissed much, but when you do, some scary ass shit.
What I didn't like: The hidden figure who works for the "evil" people and can hurt anyone or anything. Just kind of lame for me. I also thought, while the monster creature was a fun fight, it dragged on a little long when the main story had something to actually say.
I'd normally hit this with a 3.5 cause thought the story and pacing were solid but the art is so damn good I'ma go with a 4. It's not the best Superman story but very enjoyable one and a different look at our hero. Check it out!

At first I was a bit worried. When comics get to "cutesy" or too "weird" I usually just give up on them pretty quickly. They just don't do it for me. Also I know some comics are made for younger readers, which is SO fine. I enjoy Champions and Ms. Marvel but both are aimed towards young teens or kids and that's 100% fine because just like Spider-man was for me.
So this whole volume is 4 issues (and one special issue of the issue when Squirrel girl first shows up). It actually tells a complete arc about Glactus coming to earth to...you guessed it...eat it! Squirrel girl is on a mission to stop him! But she also has to deal with a ton of shit like School, bank robberies, and new roommate! Oh and a boy crush! Can she do it all?
What I like: The pacing is always quick so never bored. I also liked the roommate after issue 1. They don't make her one dimensional. I also LOVED the Twitter recaps. Those freaking KILLED me. Whiplash is the best he's ever been (yes that whiplash.) and how awesome was Doreen and Glactus just hanging out? Pretty amazing!
What I didn't like: First issue, and even some of 2, felt a little too goofy. I also thought some of the dialog, mostly coming from Doreen, didn't always hit. Like trying to be funnier than they are. It was when she had others to play off it worked better. Also it's only 4 issues. The special issue was meh and not nearly as good.
Overall it's more around a 3.5 but I still had a ton of fun reading it. Had flaws, and started shaky, but ended well. I think I'll be picking up the next few volumes now!

You know what? I thought this was a lot of fun. Superman and Batman, or should I say Superboy and Batboy cause they just young and reckless here, meet for the first time. Does it go well? Hell to the no. However, they are transported to a world where Supes and Baty have been besties forever. However these new wippersnappers are not about to have that. They only half trust the old, but they are more lethal, less trusting, and who can blame them? They're from New52 world, where everyone is more realistic to our world. So pieces of shit!
The story revolves around some demi-demon jumping from person to person taking over them and...that's kind of it. It's just jumping to person to person with a mission of who can stop darkseid. There's a machine that the old and new superman/batman fight over. So plot is just okay, why did give it a 4? (Well 3.5 but 4 for the art)
What I liked: Supes/Bat teaming up is always fun. I loved seeing the old interact with the new. I found the old superman and new one really funny together. I also loved loved loved the art. The dialog was easy and sharp, and nicely done. I thought the pacing was quick and fun and this was the most fun I had with New52 superman in awhile.
What I didn't like: The ending issue was a waste. Just dumb. I also thought the plot could have used a much better villain. Also why was Wonder Women in here? (Tho she hot) And it could be abit confusing till the end.
Overall I had fun reading this. Not mindblowing but a lot of fun. I really dig the art, and can see why some won't, but the asian flavor look is awesome to me. Overall a 3.5 but I'ma round it to a 4 because fuck it, was fun!

The world hates all mutants now that Magneto went along and fucked up the world. Oh you didn't read Ultimatium? Well that's good. IT WAS HORRIBLE. Basically Mag goes nuts and sends a tidal wave to take out New York. In the process he kills a ton of heroes and then other villains eat other heroes (yes, the blob eats the wasp...no I'm not joking) and just a ton of dumb shit happened.
So can we recover? Kind of. I never read these even though I read all of Ultimate X-Men back in the day. I figured I'd give it a try when saw it on my Library Shelf. Kitty, Iceman, and Mr. Flame on (Human Torch) are in hiding. On top of that we show Wolverine's Son (jimmy I believe) who makes a small cameo at the start and then comes back for about 2 minutes later. He's kind of useless and the cover is a big lie but whatevas. Either way we begin to form a new X-Men team, though underground, against Snyder who is a crazy God Loving man trying to destroy all mutants. While that's happening the government is working with Pedro and yeah, just a ton of shit happening at once.
What I liked: The start was great. Really shows how much fear people have that they'd kill their own child. Sick but easy to see in this disturbed world. I also enjoyed Kitty basically running shit. She's actually my favorite X-Men of the ultimate universe. Also Iceman and Human Torch play good off each other. Their dialog is fun and easy to go with and a few laughs to be had. The art is solid and easy to follow through.
What I didn't like: Stryker was kind of meh as a villain. THe fact they trusted quick silver is fucking DUMB. Also Jimmy is pretty much useless. The pacing alters from fast paced to slow as snails at times too.
Overall not a bad start. I think I'll continue. It reminds me mostly of most of Ultimate X-men. Fun but silly and dumb. Maybe it'll get better? Let's find out!

Okay this was the first volume since the first that I "REALLY' enjoyed. Volume 2 and 3 were solid but they had a few missteps. This volume is lengthy and tells a story of mother and daughter immune to the plague killing the people in their city and looking to survive once her husband dies. It has a few central characters and gives us the feeling of a harsh winter that most people won't survive.
Hilda and her daughter are truly well developed interesting leads. You also have a few side cast character, Boris probably being the best one, and the villain = Gunborg. The fact the priest in this book uses facts over religion to explain why they must close in the village so the disease doesn't spread is surprising and leads the book into a feeling of doom and gloom while feeling like you're also in a tight space at all times.
What I liked: Loved the interaction with Hilda and her daughter. All well done and you can feel the fear and love between them. Boris was also a great side character and you always felt he was the only one making sense. Gunborg played his role well and a true asshole throughout. I also really enjoyed the ending and that the way we did it isn't all "happy" but "hopeful."
What I didn't like: The pacing could have been a tad better at times. I also thought, for the first time, sometimes the art was hard to follow. Certain fight scenes made it tough to keep up.
Overall Northlanders remains to keep me coming back. It's not mindblowing but with 2 solid volumes, and 2 great volumes, this might go down as one of the best ongoing series without a dud. I hope 5-7 finish up nicely!

If I was 100% honest with myself I'd go with a 2.5. I really liked this at the start. Jen is a fun character who's super smart but she likes being She-hulk ALL the time. Who wouldn't? Super strong, smart, and green! That's the way of life! Plus everyone loves her...well almost everyone.
When she's recruited to join a new law-firm after getting kicked out of the avengers they give her one condition. You MUST be Jen the lawyer, not She-hulk. She she takes on a couple of cases in volume 1 as Jen (And a little she-hulk) but how are the results?
What I like: The fun good nature of the comic is good. I also like Jen, she's funny but not dumb funny. The art is unique and makes everyone different. I also really enjoyed the middle case (which is the best one) in the first volume.
What I didn't like: Some characters look awful in this art. Cap looked so bad. I also dislike the pacing. It starts off good, but then slow, then fast, then really really slow. It bounces a lot. Also the last arc, or two issues, were pretty boring for me and lowered my score a bit.
I still say check it out because it's good. You might even love it to be honest. For me? I thought it was okay. Some good moments but otherwise forgettable series. A 2.5 out of 5.

Started off better than where we ended up. Dick is now the new Batman. I for one loved this era. Black Mirror was wonderful and Batman & Robin was really solid. So I was pretty excited to try and read more during that era. Judd Winick is someone I've never read before (yes I know, I have to read Red Hood!) so I went in with zero expectations. Came out a bit sad.
Dick is still learning to be Batman. Alfred is learning to be around the new Batman. Everything is messy but they're trying to make it work. This Batman smiles when he fights, he flips around and is more acrobatic, and the villains notice!
What I liked: The start of it. Like Alfred and Grayson just talking was some good stuff. Them trying to figure this out together I liked a lot. Also the first fight was really fun and showed how different Dick is to Bruce (and better in some ways) and I also enjoyed most of the art.
What I didn't like: Some shots were pretty ugly though. Like odd angles for fighting. I also thought some of the dialog was iffy. Two Face also came across as kind of dumb as fuck and him being the main villain (until the mysterious main villain shows up) didn't do it for me.
I'd rate it around a 2.5 but going with a 2 on this scale because I was left unimpressed. Which is sad, because I love this era for Batman, but this book came up a little short.

I feel like I could copy and paste my review of Birthright and put it on here. Jeph Loeb is a mixed writer for me. I thought Spider-man blue was good but overrated. Ultimatum but the biggest fuck you ever to comic fans. However, I LOVE Hush and put it as top 10 Batman stories of all time. So when I picked up Superman For All Seasons I came in with a open mind.
This is basically 4 part story of Superman's early days. We start off with Clark finishing High School, his first few months of being Superman, his withdrawal from it all back to Smallville and his rise back to Superman. No spoilers really because it's what you'd expect from a Superman story. Maybe that's why it came off a little meh. Because I read this before, and better.
What I liked: I enjoyed the light hearted feel of it all. Very old school supes. I enjoyed most of the dialog and never came across as trying too hard. The art was a mixed bag. I love some shots, while others not so much. Also enjoyed his relationship with Lana a lot in this story.
What I disliked: The art could sometimes make characters weird. I really disliked Superman's design here. I thought the villain Lex storyline was bad (Fall?) and I was bored throughout. It was only thanks to Winter I began liking it again.
Really it's not amazing, but it's solid. A good introduction to Superman. However, I can offer better stories to read on the Man of Steel. This sits at a 2.5/3 out of 5 for me.

This was...honestly just kind of silly and boring. The writing and art seemed way overblown and not really all that fun. I just was bored almost 99% of the time reading this. You ever just read a book and begin to zone out? That's this type of book. It's not awful but I didn't like it one bit and for that I give it a 1 star. Sorry Batman.
This is the last volume before Aquaman Rebirth began. It's funny because I read volume 1-2 of Rebirth before any of new52 run. Honestly after Johns run this series went downhill pretty fast. Even at it's best it was a shell of it's old self. Aquaman just doesn't seem to evolve or change much through the series and this book, while pushing some world moments, doesn't help improve the character after the first issue.
What I liked: The first issue was nice and refreshing. Aquaman taking his friends out of water to help them learn how to live like a human. You can't hate something or be scared of something if you understand it. Least Arthur thinks so and I tend to agree. It starts off interesting and fun and then a creature begins killing people and that's also pretty entertaining at first. Then...
What I didn't like: The story dissolves into a boring cliche of comicbook flare with the big bad being a monster who was created by...you guessed it...us! Because he is Dark Water! A human turned into monster hunting down humans. Booooooring would be the best word to describe this one. Also the art was uninspiring and even the first two rebirth volumes follow that issue. Not bad but boring.
I'm kind of glad I read Rebirth first because If I read this I might not have been interested enough to try Rebirth (which I'm liking more than this) so for that this gets a 2 to a 2.5.
