It's not that I hated it, it just felt empty? It has some great moments. We get to see Storm again and her revolution against the guards at the prison. It shows how some mutants, especially ones beat, decide they won't take it anymore. We mostly focus on them, a little bit of kitty, and then Quicksilver. Honestly it all connects but not in a entertaining way.
What I liked: The moments with certain characters like storm are fun. I also think the art is still pretty solid, never have any horrible images.
What I didn't like: It just felt a ton of set up but with no payoff. The final shot was dull and lifeless, especially when we know nothing will come from it. Also the pacing was so quick that nothing actually stuck.
I felt let down by this one, especially considering the first volume was pretty solid. This gets a 2 out of 5.

It's hard to rate this because Kabi, the author, is just expressing what she went through. The story really focuses on her from 18 years old to 28 and how she lived her life. You get some past too, when she's a child, and how it created her lifestyle. It's funny sometimes, sad others, but it gives you her life in a open book format. It's sometimes hard to read, but then the next page you laugh, and it keeps mixing things up to keep it entertaining.
What I liked: The art style was super cute and enjoyed almost all of it. I also liked the whole growing up with darker thoughts than most would admit. Especially about their own parents and such. I thought that was very brave. I also really enjoyed the pacing as it always kept moving forward to the next big hurdle in her life.
What I didn't like: I was growing a bit tired of her self doubt. Now that might be stupid to say because she's living with it not me. I just felt it was taking too long for her to gain some self confidence. I know that matters from person to person but I just wanted to jump in and give her a boost. I also thought some themes and lines kept getting replayed too much. I get that's how the life was but it kept digging in so much that some pieces of the story wasn't as interesting because I already heard the same thing 30 pages back.
I really thought this was a brave book. I think people who have issues with self loving or if they are trying to figure themselves out sexually can relate and enjoy this more. It's honest, brutal, yet funny. I think that's what makes it easy to jump in and then mattering who you are, easy to relate to.

It's funny. The main story in this titled is named "Metal" and while good is the weakest part for me. The two other stories here which one focuses on just a one shot of travelers going to a new land and ending up with a nice twist. The second is at the end when a old man fishing in the icelands finds a dead girl under the ice. This started off mehish but by the end I really felt some strong emotional moments hitting here.
The main story here focuses on a Viking slaughtering every Christian he sees. When he meets a nun who is abused by the order he decides to take matters in his own hands and kill everyone near her. Once that happens they send more and more christians out to meet him and kill him. That doesn't turn out well till they send a hunter of sorts to retrieve the Christian killer.
What I liked: Loved the one shot at the start. It also helps the art was done by Fiona Staples. I also REALLY like the ending to the girl in the ice arc at the end. Very powerful. The Metal storyline stays interesting and some great moments but overall the pacing was a bit iffy.
What I didn't like: The main issue with Metal is it got to "God" like. Powers, witchcraft, things began to come into play I didn't care for. Also the wrap up was far to neat for this series and felt out of place.
I really enjoyed the ending and beginning of this so much and Metal was solid enough to bump this to a 4. I'd say Volume 1 and 4 are still the best but this was a fine addition to this series. Very few bad stories throughout this long series, which is very very refreshing to see.

I'll be honest this was looking to go down as really bad. The first arc was by far the worse. It starts off with people playing video games, but instead of games, they put these nano robot thingys inside superman, batman, and so on to control them as video game characters. Once past that we have a kind of cool story where Moguel (think that's how spell it) son comes to earth but instead of destroying it wants to battle for the right. So Superman/Supergirl/Steel and Batman/Batgirl/Redhood team up but instead have to fight each other. It's a fun little team up and something different.
We then have a arc about Superman and Batman dealing with Earth 2 Kara (Powergirl) and Batman's daughter who is Huntress in that Earth. They must face off against the undercover bad guy who is preparing to open a portal of sorts to the world where the old superman/batman were in Volume 1.
What I liked: Really enjoyed the arc with the battle royal. Some really fun fights, solid arts, and quick paced storyline (think just two issues). I also dug the whole earth 2 connection again. It was so cool to watch Batman and his daughter from another reality team up. Def a highlight. Also this Superman/Batman still not trusting each other 100% is compelling and interesting compared to the old ways.
What I didn't like: The first arc was really awful. Sadly it takes up like 1/3rd of the book too. This almost made me not want to continue. Also the ending of the book was kind of mehish and very superheroish.
Overall another fun volume. I just really dig Superman/Batman together. They're funny and their distrust makes for some really interesting moments. I would recommend this to fans of both to try it out.

I guess I'm surprised this isn't as bad as I expected. I Love love love Ultimate SPider-man but the rest of the ultimate universe was 50/50. I never even read any Ultimate title once I got to ultimatum. So no X-Men, Avengers, Ultimates, or any of them. So going back I was holding my breath on any of it being good. I never even heard much about these series after that terrible event. Who knew it can be pretty entertaining?
So Kitty Pride has had enough of this shit. Stryker is basically in sentials now, like inside them, and they are hunting all mutants. On top of that Kitty heads down south with Bobby, Rogue, and Jimmy (Wolverine Jr.) and decides to begin a rebellion. With Kitty being in charge, she's scared, but she knows what must be done to take the war to them. Facing Racism and odds stacked against her she marches forward towards victory with some unlikely allies!
What I liked: Loved Kitty in here. She's just so admirable. She has badass moments but she doesn't come across as "perfect superhero girl" she's just a scared teenager who's had enough of this shit and trying her best to survive. She's relatable and you instantly root for her. I also really loved the issue with the racist rednecks being pricks to mutants. Really does give the world a scary place to live for these guys. Also enjoyed the ending and it's set up for the future three volumes.
What I didn't like: The art can be a bit iffy sometimes. Making some characters look to similar at parts. The action sometimes struggles to flow. I also thought the fight against the robots was the least interesting part and had me wanting to get back to the talking since the dialog was pretty solid.
Overall I'm digging Brian's take on X-Men. I'm hoping the next 3 volumes build on this idea of going to a new world filled with a ton less mutants. Let's hope it keeps up!

I enjoyed the first ones second half but this volume kind of dragged and dragged. The start of it was fun enough, and I still LOVE the twitter parts of it but the rest...trying too hard to be funny/cute and it's kind of just boring. The art is still just okay and the story just goes at a snail's pace. I think might drop this one, for it's not bad, it's just not for me.
I'll be honest I couldn't finish it. <3 Scott Snyder but this was BORING.
I was trying to figure out if it's a 3 or 4. It's more like a 3.5. It's by far the best volume of the Ultimate Comics run after Ultimatum for X-Men. After the mutants still here create a area for themselves called Utopia it's time to fix up their community. There's only around 20 left and most follow Kitty's ideas and rules. She is the one who liberated them so why not follow her?
When Kitty and crew create a magic seed that can cure world hunger Tony Stark comes over to help them promote it but also protect them. This volume is heavily focused on the political side of it all. There's very little fighting and mostly people trying to figure out what they want. With Naomi back and going against everything Kitty has going for it, and similar powers to Magneto, we can see them drifting apart. On top of that the remaining mutants are taking sides.
What I liked: Loved most of the dialog in this. Most characters are teenagers or young adults. They have no clue what to do and watching Kitty begin to break down is both scary and sad. We also see other characters battle their internal demons and try to find who they are. The idea of the seed was great and having support cast of Tony show up was great because brought new layers to the story that could have fell apart.
What I didn't like: Some characters switch their alliance way to quick. Some felt wrong or not earned. Also stormfront, the prequel story at the end for Storm was just okay.
I really dug this volume. I bumped it to a 4 because I was really invested into the characters this volume. I'm hoping it continues and finishing up strong. Wood gets what the X-Men are about. Wished he wrote the main series now.

I'm not going to hold Brian to this book too much. This is really early work, when he was still finding his way, and it shows. There's some decent dialog at play but Batman doesn't sound very Batman and even Wonder Women feels off. I still enjoyed it, as it's a quick and easy read, but at the same time I won't be remembering this much. Early work from Brain is interesting because he does become my favorite writer of all time but this isn't a good showcase for him.
Ah man I really loved the first volume. Well, love is a strong word, but I found it very very interesting. This volume is a bit different. We are thrown into Superman's jounry into the "other" world. The one he created. Heavy on metaphors and trying to contrast hell/heaven and what we create/destroy.
What I liked: still loved all the stuff with the priest. Was kind of sad where it ended up not impacting the overall story but I did like that character. Also Wonder Woman/Batman parts were good/entertaining.
What I didn't like: The vanishing area was a bit over the top and silly for me. The final fight was drawn out and boring. The whole ending felt rushed and not well told. I understood it, but it didn't connect with me.
I have to go with a 2.5 or 2 with this one. It was a big letdown compared to volume 1 which I enjoyed a lot throughout. Owell, this story arc in total still solid and worth reading for a different Superman story.
