This is the last volume before Aquaman Rebirth began. It's funny because I read volume 1-2 of Rebirth before any of new52 run. Honestly after Johns run this series went downhill pretty fast. Even at it's best it was a shell of it's old self. Aquaman just doesn't seem to evolve or change much through the series and this book, while pushing some world moments, doesn't help improve the character after the first issue.

What I liked: The first issue was nice and refreshing. Aquaman taking his friends out of water to help them learn how to live like a human. You can't hate something or be scared of something if you understand it. Least Arthur thinks so and I tend to agree. It starts off interesting and fun and then a creature begins killing people and that's also pretty entertaining at first. Then...

What I didn't like: The story dissolves into a boring cliche of comicbook flare with the big bad being a monster who was created by...you guessed it...us! Because he is Dark Water! A human turned into monster hunting down humans. Booooooring would be the best word to describe this one. Also the art was uninspiring and even the first two rebirth volumes follow that issue. Not bad but boring.

I'm kind of glad I read Rebirth first because If I read this I might not have been interested enough to try Rebirth (which I'm liking more than this) so for that this gets a 2 to a 2.5.
