I didn't hate this volume but it felt like a major step down from the last two volumes. So now Aquaman is king and the next big adventure begins? What could be bigger than facing a old ass ice king who used to THE KING? Oh High School Reunion! DUM DUM DUM! No but really...that happens. We also have a few issues of Demigods escaping which brings in Wonder Women. We finally finish up the ending with Aquaman going head to head with Swamp Thing! OH SNAP CRACKLE AND A BIT OF POP!
What I liked: Aquaman at his school reunion was goofy but fun. Love the moment Mera met Arthur old lover. Funny times. I also enjoyed the swamp thing crossover. Sure it was just two issues but I liked how to protectors fought for obvious reasons but learn to come respect each other...kind of. Swamp Thing basically told him to fuck off but still lol.
What I didn't like: The Demi-god arc was kind of boring. I didn't find them scary or interesting. Wonder Women didn't help much either. Lame cameo that didn't add anything to the overall story. Also the art midway got pretty awful.
Aquaman drops a few notches in quality thanks to writer/artist shift. Let's hope it can recover. A 2.5 out of 5.

BAM BAM BAM! Heads rolling! Bodies...swirling? Well they getting sliced up. Boobies bouncing (I swear) and monsters turning into gigantic slug like monsters. Holy hell this volume was insane. No one is safe. Things get crazy and people begin to get picked off one by one. We lost 80% of the crew last time, but besides one major one the rest were throwaways. By the end of this...well let's just say we about empty on "heroes"
What I liked: The action was intense and easy to follow. The pacing was perfect. The ending was heartbreaking. The blood was everywhere. This was also the least amount of fan service. I mean a couple of boobs but that's it! Oh and a butt. Also the ending with the mystery guy asking questions get you hyped for the future.
What I didn't like: Pretty much love this volume. Loss is the theme and they handle it well.
Gantz just stepped into forth gear here, and I'm hoping it continues. From what I remember it falters but if I can get 3-4 more volumes like this I'll be a happy camper.

Sucks this was my first introduction to Cullen work because this was pretty bad. I heard a lot of his other stuff is great, including even Magneto series. I do want to try out more so this won't be the only thing I judge him on. However, saying that, this is pretty f'ing bad. You have two redneck families going at each other, or least that's what's said, but then you got vampires coming in. Vampires who look like American Vampire rejects. Then you have the ability to control spiders. Then by the end I don't even know what the fuck happened and it ends on a very very depressing note but not in a good way.
What I liked: SOme of the art was solid and the bull part was cool....yeah...hard to pick.
What I didn't like: Everything else.
Skip this one for sure.

My 200th book of 2017! Woot woot! 100 to go for goal.
Okay on to my review.
When a anime/show/book/movie becomes popular you'll hear a lot of people say "that's so overrated" or "that shit sucks" because well, people love to judge things before they read/watch/play them. It's simple human nature. Either that or the internet...yeah let's blame that. So Tokyo Ghoul became very popular a few years ago and last year I watched the anime with my wife and really enjoyed it. (Well first season. Season 2...so/so) Just like Attack on Titan it had a huge following but a very vocal "This is for weebs" or "This is terrible" However, I judge things based on the quality I see. I don't care what's popular, what's not popular. I judge it all based on it "I" enjoyed it. Not the world.
Saying that I really love the start up of Tokyo Ghoul. Ken Kaneki is just a regular dude who's trying to find a pretty lady to date. His buddy Hide is the fun outgoing friend you have to have so you look normal in comparison. So the book starts off with Kaneki linking up with a pretty girl from a local coffee shop and walking her home while talking about books they both like. Sounds great, right? Well the women turns out to be a Ghoul, and not one of the nice ones (yes there are nice ghouls) and attacks Kaneki!
I don't want to give more away but that's the start of it. So what did I like? Dislike? Let's go!
What I liked: I enjoy Ken Kaneki because he's just the normal guy trying to fit into a new world. He's a little bit of a cry baby sometimes but he's only 18 (or 16) and trying to learn about his own new body. I loved the art, think it works real well and everyone has their own distinct look. The pacing is perfect and slowdowns when needs to but other than that they move at a steady speed. Touka is also hot as hell and super badass. <3 her.
What I didn't like: Some of the writing, like most Manga, can be iffy. Mostly due to translation probably. Also the idea of Ghoul isn't brand new. Think Zombies/Vampires type of story. This can turn some people off (I think it evolves nicely but not in the first volume)
I really do enjoy Tokyo Ghoul. It's different enough to get sucked in yet it has characters to enjoy and grow with, the art and fights are easy to follow and nicely done, and the story is worth checking out. So yeah, going to read it all! A 4/5!

This was pretty great. A little long winded but I really enjoyed the themes and messages here. Blankets is a story about childhood. About family, and love, and of course religion. Craig is just a normal dude being brought up in a strange world. Religion is forced upon him, love is broken and weird, everyone picks on him at school, he doesn't speak to his brother. It's a messy story but aren't the best stories that way?
What I enjoyed about Blankets was giving you a honest raw look at things. So there's some stuff that might be hard to read but that's okay. It's not here to offend just here to offer a new look on people's personal lives. The story manages to hit Craig's very young age stories and teenage stories and balance them throughout. Learning about childhood till 18 is not easy.
What I liked: The art was pretty great. Loved the darker outlook on things yet sometimes there's shots of WHOA and amazement and it's all in black and white. I also really enjoyed most of the characters. I really understood where Craig was coming from and felt his life was not easy but he managed. I loved the raw outlook on religion and it wasn't painted as awful, just used awfully. And I can relate to that mindset 100%. I really enjoyed the ending too, as if to tell you life is just moments that we make.
What I didn't like: The pacing could be sluggish at times. Sometimes long moments of nothingness or repeating the same themes got annoying.
Overall I really did enjoy Blankets. It didn't blow my mind like Daytripper but it def hit on some emotional levels for me. I always enjoy when a book can do that. I will now grab my blanket and go to sleep. Goodnight!
Wow...that was lame. 4/5.

Man after an amazing volume 1, a pretty decent volume 2, we get a pretty bad volume 3. There's still some funny moments in the first few issues but this one takes a huge nose dive. Especially the ending of this volume which focuses on solo stories of deadshot and katana.
What I liked: Some of the humor was fun in issue 1-2 and then...dies. Quickly. Anyway more good...uh...we get a fun version of...wait what am I even saying.
What I didn't like: All the characters felt lifeless. Everything building up matter not here after the first two volumes. No remorse or anything for Reverse Flash. Fuck the one shots of the members, they're so bad.
Overall this is pretty awful. I'll have to drop this series. Oh wells. Had fun for volume 1 and 2.

I didn't like this at all really. So with Rebirth Superman being so good I decided why not go back once more. I mean I read all of Action Comics leading up to rebirth (which was pretty terrible for 80% of it) but never did read "Superman". So I picked this up to try out. I mean how bad could it be? Well if you see my rating it's pretty obvious.
This story focuses on Clark being upset that the Daily Planet sold out. Well they're going more digital, doing more "easy news" stories. You know, so that people can survive, and Clark doesn't like that. On top of that we get generic villains popping up who are made of fire, ice, and super strong punch alien. After supes beats each one they combine and create a SUPERMAN CLONE! DUM DUM DUM! Oh and Supergirl shows up for like 5 minutes.
What I liked: Some of the art was good?
What I didn't like: The action was messy. The fights were boring. The dialog was...realllllllly bad. I mean Clark was cheesy X 100000000. The villains were generic as they come except their backstory was awful and the ending was anticlimatic as can be. Supergirl was a waste. Lois is a bitch in this for no reason. Yeah pretty much everything is terrible.
Skip. Skip. Skipppppp. I'll try one or two more volumes and then stop completely. Superman sure did have it rough during New52 run didn't he? Not many good stories. Shame. 1/5.

Holy shit where was this my whole life? Did I just not see this ever? Like DAMN this was pretty awesome! Sven is a dude coming back to take his land back. He was once amongest the viking, left, and returns to find Gorm, the guy who took over his land after his father had died. Fuck that guy. Sven going to handle it but it's not going to be easy. He's all by himself and learns to take them out. This is like a thriller meets medievil epic, mixed with espionage because of Sven fighting style.
Before I get to it just know this isn't history accurate. I'm okay with that. Even more so they took out old english that's boring and shitty and replaced it with more modern language. So Sven will be like "Fuck yourself" and I'm so okay with this because it feels more natural. I'm not reading comics to get a history lesson, I'm reading to see some epic grimy shit in Viking world. I got just that.
What I liked: Sven is a piece of shit half the time. I love that though. We don't always need or deserve a heroic hero. Then we also got a vast land to take over and loved the hell out of the design of the land. I also loved the fighting as it was screwed up and brutal as hell. Also enjoyed a lot of the characters and how each one made another stronger or weaker. I also loved the storytelling and pacing as it was quick but ALWAYS entertaining. Never once was I bored with this one.
What I didn't like: The first two issues take a bit to get in to it. It's a shock how different it is to historical accurate properties. So that took a bit.
Overall I freaking loved it. It takes abit to go but once it does it's damn fun. I got to say I'm super impressed and ordering the next 6 volumes right now.

Hey between all the comics I gotta get some novels in there...right? Troop is about a group of boy-scouts going on their daily adventure into the forest. They're still earning their badges and doing their...boy-scout thing? I dunno much about all that. Either way a mysterious guy shows up on the island their on and he's not doing too good. Soon we see him shoot out some goo all over the boy-scout leader and all hell breaks loose.
This story is a mix of mutliple genres. It's a coming of age story, horror, and downright grossness. There's things that happen, and in plenty of detailed, that even made me cringe a bit. This is coming from someone who reads a ton of horror and watches it. Just hearing certain things about animals getting murdered and such isn't easy to picture. So this is not for the faint of heart.
What I liked: The characters interactions with each other is very enjoyable. They feel like kids throughout the entire thing which is something not easy to portray. I also love the little interviews and courtroom moments. It takes place after the events on the island but damn is it entertaining and gets you invested again when the previous chapter might slow down enough to lose it. I really enjoyed the backgrounds of each kid. They were fleshed out and when someone gets hurt or dies you can feel something.
What I didn't like: The idea of this creature is cool but never felt it was very scary. They tried a little bit at the end to give us a "horror" monster but failed to live up to the moment before it. I also couldn't grasp to one main character. I get they give a cast, but you still need a focus point to attach to. I liked the kids but didn't pick one to care the most for, which made it hard to care enough to be sad when something truly horrible happened. The pacing had its ups and downs. It felt slow at times, exciting at others.
Overall the Troop was a fun read. I didn't love it though. I thought I might have when it began but due to the pacing and not getting attached I lost the will to fully fall in love with the story shown here. However, it's still worth reading and I'd advise any horror fan to give it a chance! A 3.5 out of 5.
