Got this one from the Library. Figured I might enjoy it from the cover...was letdown.
What I like: The idea and the art. The art is pretty great at times. Especially the areas and such. Also the idea of this is cool, something different and unique.
What I didn't like: The story was dull. The one "death" was easy to see coming and felt lifeless (no pun intended). The dialog was okay, average at best. Also as much as I enjoyed the art a lot of characters (mice) looked very similar.
I dunno, this didn't do much for me. A good 20 minute read tho.

I kept debating if I should give this a 3 or 4. It's like right inbetween so I settled for a 3.5. Don't be confused by the rating, this is a comic worth reading, I just didn't "LOVE" it. Okay let's get on to it.
What I liked: The characters. Each issue basically plays out that you get the background of the main characters + current things happening. It's pretty cool to see how they link and why they act the way they do. I also liked how the story gives this sense of mystery and creepiness without going overboard. Also the art is unique and don't think anything really looks like it. Like Retro meets modern.
What I didn't like: The faces sometimes look a bit odd. Also the stories aren't all as good as the others. With a big cast you'll link to some characters while others come off meh. I was let down by some even because their current self is much more interesting. Also the family dynamic feels a bit iffy at times, too TV.
Overall I did enjoy reading this. The first arc ends on "Whoa" and really leaves it up in the air for the future of this series. I'm hoping Jeff Lamire dives even deeper into this world.

Journey Into Mystery by Kieron Gillen: The Complete Collection, Vol. 1
Rich Elson, Dougie Braithwaite
I just can't seem to get into the "Gods" and such. Thor has never been great for me and it looks like Loki's side of things share the same fate. It sucks too cause I wanna love it but it's just sooooooo borrrriiiiinnnngggggg.
I really had a good time reading this. It's aimed for the younger group, and sometimes I don't like it all, but it had a lot of my favorite younger superheroes so let's talk about what worked and didn't work.
What I liked: I really loved the art in this. I believe this is the guy who did the art on Big Time for Spider-man run. So enjoyed that. I also really loved the character interactions with each other. I thought them handling situations such as racism, human trafficing, and oversea political issues was a nice touch over the super villain of the week. It doesn't go into as depth as I'd like but as far as a teen book it does it well. Also think the pacing is perfect and the book is never dull.
What I didn't like: The fact we can't get deeper into some of the subject matter. Would love a whole arc to take place focusing on the racist city sheriff and get the underlying themes of corruption and such. Felt like if they aimed for a bigger, deeper, scoped story we'd get that.
Overall I had a lot of fun reading this. Some good laughs, solid subject matters, good team dynamic, and great pacing. Let's hope it keeps up!

I had a lot of fun reading this. However, the 2nd half wasn't as fun or interesting as the first half. So let's get to it.
What I liked: I really enjoyed the art. It was cartoony look and feel but the actions and fights (kind of fights) looked great. I also enjoyed the dialog for 90% of this. It's sharp, witty, and goes after all the insane things people talk about, think about, but to afraid to discuss without yelling and accusing someone as stupid or racist. I enjoyed that portion a lot. The first half really focuses on that and how greedy and fucked up most corperations are.
What I didn't like: When she became president it kind of feels a little meh. Little too safe. I wasn't as invested with the storyline here. I also really didn't care about war robot. I think the thing that happened is it would have worked better if the story continued but it got cut short...so in the end felt...empty? Or only half full. It was lacking.
Either way though I enjoyed my entire time with it. Just less so as it went on. I still recommend reading it. Check out flintstones by the same writer aswell. I enjoyed that even more!

I so expected this to be one of my favorite graphic novels of all time. A deep, emotional, powerful story + Jeff Lemire's writing + Dark and twisted art. But...
What I liked: The three separate stories made it fresh to go through a 500+ page book. I also liked some of the imagery. Dark and lost, deep and sad, you really felt the emotion from the characters. I also liked how the lives all intertwined with each of them. The ending result was also sweet, bitter, and left unfinished but not in a bad way.
What I didn't like: The art is sketchy like and not all that well done sometimes for me. I also didn't get attached to the characters...at all. Like I tried to really get invested but nobody grabbed me sadly. I didn't really like the last part of it as well as the nurse was the least interesting and their backstory did nothing for me.
I guess I'm so let down because I WANTED to love this but it just didn't click with me. I guess they can't all be winners. I'd still advise anyone who wants a good story to read this, if you get attached to the characters you might end up loving it.

Batman: Let's get the boys together and strike back at their home. HARD!
^Actual Batman dialog....for real now...(Small update to show how bad this is)
Wish could give this 0. This is one of the worst dialog written comics I ever read. Bryan Hitch is a solid artist. Love his work on Ultimates. But this is so bad. The dialog is awful! Like so bad. Characters act out of character over and over again and say dumb shit (especially Batman) and both these arcs wrap up so quickly with no stakes it makes me facepalm. It's a shitty version of Grid from John's run, but even shittier. Also fuck that fear arc...terrible.
Yeah. Dropping this one till a new team is on it.

Hey...I didn't hate this. That's something I didn't expect. I read Civil War a few years back and didn't particularly enjoy it much. So I figured 2, which was just a cash grab for the movie alongside it, would be terrible. I thought this had some neat ideas, some great moments, but a pretty shitty finisher.
What I liked: The art. The art is a fucking 5 out of 5. It's so smooth and nice looking. Never have fights looked so slick and easy. I also love mostly everyone's design in here. Also the idea of the story, having a future that COULD help or make it worse, was interesting. I actually saw sides to both and would find it difficult to figure out which side to choose. So the first few issues built up some pretty interesting discussions and choices. Also thought the moment with Cap and Miles was really well done, especially when you know what Cap is really doing behind the scenes.
What I didn't like: That Carol was written like a evil bitch who had no control. Carol is a smart character, she was written stupid here. I even expect a sudden outburst of anger but then when you have time to reflect, and know what went wrong, and push even further it makes no sense. Also Tony is just a prick who does stupid shit sometimes in here. He's supposed to be smart, calculated. Instead he's rash and dumb at times and written to close to dumbness for my liking. Also the ending was anti-climatic and felt empty. Like none of this should have happened. Which is a shame because first few issues are interesting.
I didn't find this terrible just down the line meh. It had great moments, stupid moments, mix it together and you get meh or just okay. So for that I give it a 2.5. Bumping it to 3 just because I fucking love the art. Hoping Secret Empire is better and from what I read so far it will be.

This was a fun little crossover event. First off we get Batman and The Flash teaming up. Second off I didn't like Watchmen the graphic novel when I read it back in high School. I might try again but I dunno, too dark for me. Yet I'm actually excited to see them crossover into DC Universe. It's exciting and fun IMO.
What I liked: The art. Well, some of it felt odd yet some of it looked great. The coloring especially was really nice. I also loved seeing banter between flash and bruce since they're so smart. I liked the opening gets you right in to it. A beat-down from reverse flash to get things started and then the events right after sure starts with a bang. Also loved seeing some of the flashpoint characters return even for a moment. The ending leaves us open for a big cliffhanger and I'm pretty pumped.
What I didn't like: The art sometimes felt static. Like placed in it wrong. Also the last issue felt kind of "okayish" except for the last panel. It didn't have the excitement of the other issues.
I overall had a good time reading this short little crossover. It hit the marks of fun and I hope for more small events like this. A solid 4/5.

This was much better than the last volume for me. It's still not nearly as good as the start of this series but remains interesting throughout. So let's talk about what worked (and what didn't).
What I liked: Really enjoyed Damien's reflection on past events. His talk with Al, his talk with Superman, and his own inner thoughts made him interesting. I also really enjoyed the Catwomen moment with Bruce. It felt heartbreaking yet right. Also small, but minor moments, like Flash and Superman standoff or Bizzaro whole arc. Just a lot of fun. I fear for his future though haha.
What I disliked: The Doomsday fight was both dull and dumb. It felt so pointless and added nothing. I also didn't understand Batman using criminals for his plans. I understood Superman but Batman going that far. They are bad people. Just because they didn't "Kill" doesn't stop them and even a desperate Batman seems unlikely to side with them.
Overall this volume made me more excited than the last but they really aren't as well done as the first few volumes and that makes me so sad haha. I will finish though.
P.S. - Injustice 2 the game is fucking amazing though. Just FYI.
