I honestly got bored reading this one, which is a shame. I usually enjoy most of Brain Wood's work now.

It's basically about what if most of the world got drowned out by water. It's pretty interesting idea, it got me excited to try it anyway, but I couldn't get invested in the plot and especially the characters. They all came off as boring and I just never could get in to it. The idea is cool, art is solid, but the rest left me wanting more. A 2 out of 5.

This was probably one of my favorite works by Brain Wood. Funny, coming from Massive, which I didn't like, to this, which I loved.

So Briggs is a political warfare story about Grace taking over the Briggs land after her husband ends up in jail. Right off the bat she tells him she'll be taking over and he tells her she's fucked. This begins a hit on Grace, who has a three kids who she wants to work with her. So it's basically a political warfare and it gets even more nasty as the story progresses beyond Brigg's land. Death, betrayal, and racism all are in one title.

Good: Loved the family feel. I also think the idea of making all these characters shitty in some way is really interesting. The betrayals and fights are great. Oh, and the ending leaves this one building up to something horrible but I can't wait.

Bad: Some of the pacing issues in issue 3-4 are there.

Overall this was fantastic. Around a 4.5 for me. Because of some of the pacing issues I'll hit it with a 4 but this is worth checking out for sure.

Whoa...

"We will start our wave. We will kill you all, bow to us."

If a dude broadcasted this to you, keep in mind a guy who can't die, what would you do? Shit your pants? Pee your pants? Both? Yep.

So Japan sends the best task force they have. I mean these dudes are heavily armed, not fucking around, put a bullet in your ass if you move a inch. The Demi-Human isn't expecting this and BAM this army fucking wrecks his shit. The leader of the Demi-human is down and even his snipers are having issues because guess what? The motherfucking task force is on that shit sucka. BOOM shoot the f'ing sniper.

This battle in this book, which takes up more than half, is fucking phenomenal. The way the two opposing forces keep upping the stakes, winning, losing, who got what, who's going to do what, is great! I really loved this portion of the book, got my blood flowing.

The second half slows it down and Kei is being a weirdo dude who has to deal with the towns people he lives with. Of course he leaves down, taking his kidnapped friend with him, in hopes of escaping and living a normal life. But no, they must team up with a certain someone, and leaves you very excited to continue despite it slowing down the momentum a bit much.

So is the Ghost Brigades any good? After loving the first Old Man's War I was a bit unsure how to feel about this.

The first major change is the third person viewpoints instead of first person. We also don't have Perry here anymore. Now we are introduced to new soldiers like Jarrod and others, and of course our favorite badass warrior Sagon makes her return. So we get a little deeper into the Ghost brigades, the super saiyan soldiers, the Spartens of this universe.

We're also on a verge of a massive war. However, this story is smaller in scale and focuses on op missions. Dangerous, suicidal, fucked up missions that only the Ghost Brigades can handle. So you get a darker look into the side of the military.

Good: I loved the bonds between the soldiers in this one. I especially enjoyed Jarrod's view points and he didn't sound to similar to Perry. I thought the ending worked even better than the first and felt like this was a true world now. I liked how it kept the tone up that not everyone is going to work out. That's how life is too. Zoey is adorbs.

Bad: Thought some of the pacing in the middle felt odd. I also didn't love the exposition coming out of nowhere sometimes.

Overall this series is fantastic. My minor issues aside it's still so good. Just like the first I loved it. I'm hoping the rest are as good. A 4.5 out of 5.

What started off as a decent idea quickly went into....something.

This is a world where superheroes are not really happening, instead super villains taking over. Tons of evil bastards going around killing and hurting people. The normal police force isn't capable of stopping them and that's bring our newest hero to the front, Suicide Risk man! After watching his partner get hurt he decides to join the fight with his own superhero powers he gains illegally. Then it becomes a revenge tale and then...something?

Good: I liked the start. The idea of the world is pretty cool too and leaves it in dire situations.

Bad: The art is pretty bad. Like it starts off okay but the fight scenes are super bland. I also thought the dialog was okay at best. It lacked punch, maybe it being rated M would have worked more. I can't get over the last issue and how off the walls it is and how dumb the story becomes. The pacing is pretty awful too.

Overall Suicide Risk is a failed attempt for me. This is my first Mike Carey story but I know he can do better than this. I can't give this over a 2.

The white hair warrior is BORN!

So Ken is being tortured after the last events of volume 6. It's pretty disturbing to watch, and seeing him being put through this slowly is disgusting. We also get the doves coming in just murdering the shit out of the people hurting Ken. Funny enough, they just in there to kill them, not rescue him. That's for ward 13 to do. So got a three way war basically with more Ken in the middle. Well poor, until he flips, and becomes more Ghoulish.

Good: Loved the turn. The torture, while hard to watch, is impactful. The change in Ken's character makes sense but doesn't COMPLETELY change him. I think the pacing is near perfect. Little info dumps here and there but mostly the action tells the story and the dialog between characters. This sets up a new future for a few characters too.

Bad: I think the art is solid but some of the fight scenes are really hard to follow.

Overall this is a great volume. This changes a lot of things. I also love the turn of events. This is probably my favorite volume of series so far.

This continues the big brawl from last volume.

We get a breakdown of all the new crazy gantz members. Rapist, killers, weirdos, all of them together, killing monsters...for fun. Unlike what we're used to these guys love to kill. They are all psychos, even the girl who's starting to fall for our favorite hero...KATO! He's going through some tough shit deciding what to do and this girl is calling her a crazy asshole the whole time so he's not having the best time. Oh, also, the vampires start to flip the script here.

Good: The fights are pretty great in this one. Super speed, bloody, and gory. What you expect from Gantz. I also think the new squad is interesting despite being psychos. Kato is becoming a more interesting character too.

Bad: They skip out on a bunch of my favorite heroes. Barely getting screen time.

Overall fun and exciting and a breeze to read. Gantz remains to be a lot of fun! A 3.5 out of 5, I'll bump to a 4.

Think for now I'll drop this series. It's just feeling really meh and killed off the best character. I'm good stopping here.

Who would have known Frank Miller getting older would actually make me like his writing.

So this very short graphic novel is basically the story of Jason Todd. Batman transitioning from Hardass psycho in All Star Batman and Robin to more tame, calm, Bruce we all know. He's seeing Jason Todd, his Robin at the time, slowly going down the rabbit hole. Becoming more violent and angry. We also see the Joker at his most lethal. What he can do with his mind games and how he can use it to escape any situation.

Good: Loved the slow dwindling effect on Jason. This actually made me understand his decent into darkness and worked well. I also enjoyed seeing the Joker here, as he came across very very creepy and he hardly laid a finger on anyone. Pretty freaky.

Bad: I thought it was too short sadly. The art wasn't that great either, and everyone looked squashed down and mushed. Some of the dialog was a bit meh.

Overall this was pretty fun. Yes, it had Miller issues but overall it was a breeze to read and didn't make me question what the fuck Miller was writing. A easy 3 out of 5.

Well damn, this series finally stepping up and now I know why Marz's Witchblade series got such love.

So this one ties up a few of the older stories. Especially the one I wanted a tie up to, about the little girl being raped and killed. We also deal with a ancient artifact coming to life and getting a bit more lore of the witchblade. A old friend comes to visit our favorite detective and some nasty stuff happens with a main character.

Good: This volume was fast paced, very well written, super fun, and surprising twist by the end. I thought the fights were getting better here, more brutal. I dug the ending so much and really hope this series keeps building from here.

Bad: I thought the artifact part was a bit boring at points with the background.

Overall Witchblade is easily turning into a very fun series with characters I really really like. A 4 out of 5.
