The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi
5.0

So is the Ghost Brigades any good? After loving the first Old Man's War I was a bit unsure how to feel about this.

The first major change is the third person viewpoints instead of first person. We also don't have Perry here anymore. Now we are introduced to new soldiers like Jarrod and others, and of course our favorite badass warrior Sagon makes her return. So we get a little deeper into the Ghost brigades, the super saiyan soldiers, the Spartens of this universe.

We're also on a verge of a massive war. However, this story is smaller in scale and focuses on op missions. Dangerous, suicidal, fucked up missions that only the Ghost Brigades can handle. So you get a darker look into the side of the military.

Good: I loved the bonds between the soldiers in this one. I especially enjoyed Jarrod's view points and he didn't sound to similar to Perry. I thought the ending worked even better than the first and felt like this was a true world now. I liked how it kept the tone up that not everyone is going to work out. That's how life is too. Zoey is adorbs.

Bad: Thought some of the pacing in the middle felt odd. I also didn't love the exposition coming out of nowhere sometimes.

Overall this series is fantastic. My minor issues aside it's still so good. Just like the first I loved it. I'm hoping the rest are as good. A 4.5 out of 5.
