This is the personal account of a woman who was abused and mistreated by a psychiatrist. This is particularly deplorable to me, because people go to psychiatrists to help themselves heal and find the tools they need to forge a better life and path for themselves. It was disgusting to read this account and know there are probably so many similar stories just like this that never came to light. Completely tragic.

I read this book for my January selection of my 2021 Reading Challenge. I actually enjoy the Killing Series, in general, and I enjoyed this book. It covered a wider time frame than just what is mentioned in the title, but I learned a lot about the interactions between indigenous peoples and the military which I heretofore was not well versed on in the least. My focus was on European history, and I freely admit my knowledge on United States history is embarrassingly lacking. This was an interesting read, and I am looking forward to the next installment in the Killing Series.

 This review contains spoilers.

This book focuses on the events of February 20, 2003 at The Station Nightclub in Rhode Island. People had turned up to this janky club to hear a popular band from the 1980's, (which was not that great to begin with, in my opinion), called Great White perform. The band did not secure proper permits, which should have been denied anyway, for the pyrotechnics that they used. The club was not suitable for pyrotechnic use. The band made the decision to use the pyrotechnics anyway, doing it themselves, with no license or training to operate them legally. The sparks caught the "sound proofing" on fire, burning the club down in minutes. The sound proofing was actually foam blocks and panels, not approved for sound proofing and was made out of extremely flammable material. There were no sprinkler systems. I believe it said there was one out of date fire extinguisher found. The floor at the exit sloped, causing people to fall and become trapped. A bouncer was trying to turn people away from an exit that would have saved many lives, because they were not with the band, even though the entire building was in flames with the foam turning into napalm. The entire situation was just one stupid decision after another, because of idiocy and being cheap skates. The fire marshal let these things slide, when anyone with sense would have never.

Nearly 100 people died in the fire, or after as a result of burns sustained. Around 200 more were burned and/or disfigured. There is an untold number of friends, families, and survivors who were traumatized by the events. The entire thing was disgusting and certainly avoidable. After reading this book and hearing some of the remarks made by the lead singer of Great White, I looked him up on social media to see if he was active and still performing....he is. I have never liked this band from what I have heard on the radio, but if I did, I cannot imagine supporting them. I would especially not support the singer of this band after his attitude and actions surrounding the fire and loss of life. All of those major players are absolutely disgraceful people.

This book is about Kimberly Clark Saenz, a nurse at a dialysis clinic, who injected bleach into patients. One always thinks that the people who are in the healthcare field are in it because they love the work, the patients, and helping people. Kimberly here was clearly not one of those types. I thought the author did a good job of presenting the case and keeping it entertaining. I ordered a couple of books of this nature after watching a show about nurses who kill, and Kimberly was featured on the show. I do not understand how she could do these things to people who are already sick in some form. It's cruel and unnecessary. I highly recommend this book, but maybe not if you are a dialysis patient.

William Bradford Bishop was born in California in 1936. He obtained several masters degrees in various subjects, and was reported to be a highly intelligent person. He married his high school sweetheart, Annette Weis, in 1959. He joined the United States Army, working in counterintelligence. He and Annette had three children, all boys. He was attempting to get a promotion, failed, and told his secretary he was feeling unwell and left work. He stopped at a store, purchasing some items that included a sledgehammer and gas. He went home and murdered his family. Police believe that he killed his wife first, then his mother, then his three sons. After he piled the bodies up and set them on fire, he took the family dog and went on the lam.

This book is available on Audible Plus currently. It was about an hour and a half long, so I listened while I folded some laundry and made dinner. I was not overly impressed with this book, but it was free to listen to, so no harm done. I thought it was interesting that they found his car abandoned not far from where I live. Police think that he took off on the Appalachian Trail. There were several reported sightings of Bishop over the years, but he has not yet been caught. I think I was disappointed because there wasn't a resolution at the end of this book. I thought it was interesting to note that in 2021, some woman discovered through an ancestry DNA test that she was his daughter, so he definitely procreated at least once more after killing his family.

This is the personal account of Monika Korra's abduction and rape. So many people are raped. A lot of those people are college students, in the general vicinity of campus. Rape is a disgusting and horrifying thing. I appreciate her honesty about her experience and her experiences during the healing process. This was a good book, though I hate to say that since the subject matter is so horrendous.

This book was very interesting. It provided a lot of information about the goings on in Vietnam that I had never read about before. I bought some Vietnam books after I learned that my Grandfather was there that way I could learn more about his experiences. I would recommend this book.

I had to pick up this book to go with the rest of my Kennedy books. Kick Kennedy was a daddy's girl, her daddy's favorite daughter...maybe even favorite child altogether. She was smart, attractive, funny, and very social. She married a British aristocrat, who died during World War II. She herself died in a plane crash and was buried in Europe. Her life was electric, what short life it was. I loved this book.

I didn't know much about this John Quincy Adams beyond the fact that he was a president and related to John Adams, also president. I found this book on audible, and it was included with my membership for free, so I gave it a listen while I played my games on my phone. It was a lot shorter than most presidential biographies, but I felt like it was adequate enough. I learned a lot of things I never knew before, which is the purpose of reading historical books. I would like to read at least one biography of every United States President, so this helped me forward in that goal. I had no idea that he was a witness to Bunker Hill, or that he was against slavery in a time when it was very unpopular to be. I think he was an interesting character and a bastion of early American history.

I really like all of Carolly Erickson's books. They are always well researched and well written. There are a lot of facts packed into the books, without being horribly annoying. I hadn't read anything about Josephine until this book. Josephine had an extremely interesting life, full of twists and turns. I love learning about European nobility, and am looking forward to learning more about her counterpart in Napoleon. This was quite a good read during the February portion of my 2021 Reading Challenge.
