This book got a little bit boring towards the end, but I still really enjoyed it. I thought the strife was cleared up wayyyy too quickly and easily. The romance aspect also felt bland.
But the descriptions of the Celestial Kingdom and beyond were so beautiful and colorful. The plot was great too. I almost wished this had not been romantasy and just been fantasy.

I liked the historical bits; I found them very informative and the storytelling through fictionalized reenactments of the call logs was an interesting concept. However, the memoir aspect of this really took me out of loving the book. I think the author spent way too much time reiterating the same assurances that she recognizes her privilege, she knows she's white/cis/able-bodied/not "that" oppressed. It sort of felt weird and annoyed me a bit.

I really enjoyed it! Out of all the books in this series so far, this one focused so much on the friendship between the ladies and I loved it! Anne was so devoted, to a fault at times, but ultimately the friendship between her and Felix has been my favorite out of all the books. It definitely had an emotional tone, with her collapse into grief after her father's death, as well as Felix's own personal struggles. I loved them both and I loved them for each other, even if the book dragged a bit at times. I also loved the setting and it's inspired me to look into Ludgate Hill and research what the city must have looked like pre-Industrial Revolution. :-)

This was a sweet book! I liked Ransom's grumpy to Izzy's sunshine, plus the added layer of overcoming their individual insecurities. One thing that threw me off a bit was the voice the narrator put on for Ransom. It was strange and took me out of the story a bit. But overall a very enjoyable story!!! I'm glad Izzy came out of her shell and continued the Goodnight series.

Such a beautiful book and I love the narrator so much but I think this is too heavy for me at my current emotional state. I might come back to it later because like I said, it is very good. Just heavy.

A bit too violent for my tastes, so I haven't decided if I will be continuing the series. I did enjoy this, especially in the very beginning. The world-building was intense and long, but I honestly loved it. I found the story itself fell flat next to the world-building, especially because I still have no idea what the clairvoyance levels are, even despite the graph in the beginning at the glossary at the back.

I enjoyed the budding romance, even if it felt like weird/off with him being like her trafficker kinda, idk. I unfortunately never saw a connection with her and the other gang members, even Nick. I hated Jax from the beginning. Most of the characters felt a bit one-dimensional.

Over the course of writing this review, I have decided to read the next book in the series.

I loved the feminist/suffrage aspect to this novel, it was really lovely to see and not a plot I find often in historical romances. Their connection did feel quite lustful, and I would have liked to see more of an emotional connection. I also would have liked more of an independent conclusion to Annabelle's story; it felt like the duke was a means to her not ending up stranded.

I'm excited for the rest of the series!

Knocking off 1/4 a point here because this took me a painfully long time to get truly into. I had to pause it for almost a month at one point -- and then (obvs my fault) I forgot someone of the characters/anecdotes. For example, I forgot why Daunis called Grant call-me-Grant. Other minor things like that, including mixing up Travis/TJ, etc.

But overall, this book was very action-packed! Some minor holes left unfilled (
what ever happened to the Elders on the ferry? And of course, the big one, Mike and the trial in general
) but overall I was left very satisfied. The final action scenes were tense and adventurous, the pace was quick enough to leave me on my toes but there was also so much detail interspersed throughout of the tribe and community culture.

I'd be kind of curious to read this as an audiobook because I didn't know how a lot of the Anishinaabe/Ojibwe words were pronounced so my mind kinda kept skipping over them. Overall, a really great story that discussed heavy topics (drug use, injustice within reservations, family betrayal, sexual assault) while also balancing resilience, storytelling, and family + community bonds.

I truly was not expecting to love this book as much as I did, but it was incredible! The story started off a tiny bit slow; the world building took a while, and it felt like most of the action was relegated to the final 2-3 chapters. However, it paid off beautifully, and painted such a wonderful picture and world that was inspired by Morocco and its history.
I loved the character development of both Amani and Maram, as well as their blossoming friendship. The romance was a little fast for me, but I still enjoyed the depiction. Overall, this was a really great book and story! I loved it. I also found the author's interview very interesting. I loved her discussion of feminism in colonization, among other things, and found it really cool how she tied these things in with her novel.
