I wrote a whole review and then accidentally removed this book from my Storygraph data :( but I really enjoyed it!

This book was pretty solid. I liked the narrators, and I especially liked the PDF evidence files interspersed throughout the chapters. It was an interesting way to navigate the story. The plot had a really great narrative overall, it was a wonderful idea. I do feel like the execution was not perfect. I didn't mind the ambiguity at the end, but at points the story just felt unpolished. It drew me in, but then dropped me a few times, until at the end of the book I was like... oh okay...

I wanted to start a new cozy mystery series, but I don't think this will be the one. The next book does sound intriguing, so I might give it another shot. It wasn't a bad book, however, there were quite a few moments throughout my reading journey that I really, really wanted it to be over. It got kinda strange, with elements of a super-secret society... I did love the concept of Storyton, and I would personally love to go to a book-themed resort. I didn't so much love reading about it.

It took me a while to start enjoying this book; by the 2nd part, I was still iffy. This was so heart-wrenching and so so so sad. Haymitch's story was absolutely devastating. It was good to see some other characters from the original trilogy making appearances too, even if it was sometimes too much.

This was a really great memoir and exploration of generational trauma. I was anticipating a science-heavy book about trauma and psychology. While it did have some science, it was not quite what I expected, but even more. I loved the personal accounts from Foo and her drive to learn more about herself and her community. While it was deeply heavy at times, she also found strength in therapy, mindfulness, etc. and shows through lived experience that healing is not always almost never linear.

This was a wonderful addition to the series! I liked that Leela from the first book made an appearance. Tied all together, the book was lovely. I can't wait to read the 3rd in the series as well!

I enjoyed the side characters more than the MC's, but I did overall enjoy this book. It was fun, lighthearted, and had a bit of angst. I'm still debating if I'll be reading the rest of the series, but I'm leaning towards yes. One thing I did not enjoy was the narrator -- her voice was very... artificial, for lack of better vocabulary.

This was so beautifully written and narrated. Very sad book. I enjoyed the characters coming to life and the unveiling of a history that isn't really talked about in the US (at least not in my small section of it). It gives me a new perspective of the Vietnam War, and the hippie movement and everything. Despite the sad history the characters still come to life, the setting of Vietnam itself is very well done. Etc.

This was so much fun to read! I loved hearing some history on the Dominican, as well as commentary on colonization. I really liked Luz Alana and her friend group and I'm super excited to read the rest of the series.

I think a few specific aspects that gave me the ick: the cattiness between Luz and 90% of the other high-society women; Evan's weird and violent overprotectiveness. But I liked the plot overall! And the character development. My favorite part was how spicy the book was :)

This book was good overall, though it did drag a bit for me towards the middle/end. I enjoyed the descriptions of China and landscape. I also loved how I've never really read a book quite like this before -- it's perfect for those looking for a historical romance set in non-Western location/timeline.
