I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. And my honest review is that I am disappointed. I'm disappointed in the plot, in the characters, in the writing. I don't like the POV, I don't
like
the cheating, I don't like the "ohmygawd" every three pages (spelled exactly like that) I don't like the friends or the side characters. Just about the only part of this I enjoyed was the love interest who really could do a lot better. This book moved quickly enough which is good but the overall feeling I come away with is just disappointment. I wanted this to be a fun, pretty light read and for the first have it was. But then it really, really wasn't any more and
the backlash I felt when the cheating began was really frustrating.
I'm going to have to say this was a miss for me. I'd love some more sweet queer romances but sadly this one wasn't the fluffy feel good ya love story I was hoping for.

Insightful, funny, and heartbreaking all in one. This book taught me a lot, not just about the history of comedy but the history of native people in the entertainment industry in general. It is such an interesting take on the tradition and a deep dive into why native comedy works so well. I think this book is one that will stay with me and a good example of when non-fiction really works well.

This is my second Roanhorse book and it's got me excited for me. This has the earmarks of a lot of modern fantasy but with some twists that I really loved. I just read The First Sister and in a lot of ways this could be its fantasy sibling. The character building is really good and the world building is also fantastic. It starts pretty slow but the end did feel a little rush. I also thought one of the characters was brought in a little late for the story. Still, I liked it a lot and will for sure read the sequel!

This book is powerful in its rage. I love the lack of sugar coating, I love the call outs, I love the voice, the writing, the imagery, everything. This book had me enraptured, completely sucked in to the point where I didn't always hear my wife talking to me because I was busy reading.

This was a fun take on Shuri and great for fans of the character. I thought the plot could have been a little tighter and also that the side characters could have used some more depth. But it has a lot of cameos from Marvel characters that both were and weren't in the MCU (X-men don't count as MCU folks). I was hoping to love this and while I liked it very much I didn't love it all that much. Still, it's a solid story with a great direction for the characters and also I will probably read the sequel so here we are at a solid four.

Ok so I'm in love. I'm absolutely, completely in love Stephen Graham Jones. These stories were all so good and so creepy and so beautiful and I don't even know how to write any of this because I am so overwhelmed with how good these are. I'm just going to go sit and think about my life now...

A teenager goes to London (stop me if you've heard this one) to escape their emotionally abusive parents and the reason for the trip is a lie. Also this teen has anxiety. Also they fall in love with the first boy they meet, even though they've been warned off. Also they travel Europe.

If this sounds familiar it is because it is. I've already read this book before. This book, like the other ones of this same genre I've read, really hinge on the characters being likable enough to keep the reader engages in an otherwise predictable and bland plot. This book does not achieve that goal. I dragged myself through every page of this book and I honestly do not believe it was even remotely worth it. I don't know how to accurately express how much the book was just a ball of boring frustration with characters who do not feel real. Deeply disappointed.

Laugh aloud funny and it made me cry a little bit! I've been putting off reading this for the right time and now felt like a good time, seeing as how we can't really do vacations right now. I have liked Hodgman for awhile now and this book really brings that home. I loved the moments that were touching and real because they made the funny parts all the more hilarious. I'm so glad I have this book in my life.

This was a different book that I expected and there were certainly parts that could have been more engaging. Overall, however, it is a lovely, hopeful, at times painful story. I am glad to have read it, really, because I think it illustrates how education can inspire and change the lives of many people. Obviously it isn't an instant fix, but the fact that education, even an education that was primarily accomplished through self teaching, can inspire someone to helping others is exactly why providing access to education is so valuable. Do read the trigger warnings though because there's a lot in there.

It really does feel like this book was a rice cake: I read it but I got no nutrition from it. It's not even junk food, it's just there, a book that I read and that I feel more or less nothing about. It is a book, things happen, I barely remember what they were. I barely remember the characters. I remember being annoyed at some of the women in the story for being too "not like other girls" but that's basically the most emotion I got out of this one. Like I said, it's a rice cake of a book.
