At no point did I ever want to stuff this book in the freezer and not take it out again, but damn, this was creepy as hell.

4.5 Stars, marked up.

I absolutely loved this one. WHEN'S THE NEXT BOOK OUT?

I was a little skeptical at first because... cyborgs and cinderella parallels in a dystopian Asia? Cinder just sounded to good to be true, and I went into it prepared to be letdown. But no, I wound up thoroughly enjoying this.
It wasn't without its problems - the protagonist failing to connect any dots after a reasonable amount of time being the biggest of these -but Cinder is definitely worth the read if you like cyborgs, charming princes, and fairy tales with a twist.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

I'm sorry to say that I was actually very... unmoved by this.

I liked the buildup we were given in the first chapter, when we were suddenly told that Edie and her mom needed to leave their home. I was excited. I was ready for mystery and drama and a roller coaster ride... but immediately given a bunch of chapters in which our bland MC complained and whined and was mean to her mother and the first person to be nice to her at her new school.

I didn't hate the book. I liked how it tried to talk about real issues like bullying, racism and domestic abuse. These are real issues that need to be talked about... I just didn't think it was executed very well in this book. It all seemed very staged to me.

The characters were a little bland, their development thin, and I found it hard to really care about them.

Overall, the story was decent. Just lacking a little emotion.

I was so close to giving this five stars, but I had a couple of issues that held me back.

I loved Nyx. I loved her complexity, I loved her fight and her tenacity, and I loved how vicious she could be at times. And Ignifex. God. DO I NEED TO REMIND YOU HOW MUCH I ADORE CHARACTERS LIKE HIM? NO? GOOD. BECAUSE YOU GET RANTS IF I NEED TO REMIND YOU.

The writing had its flaws, but it was good nonetheless. Lagged a bit at the beginning of the book, but then picked up by about the 50% mark. Was it a masterpiece? No. Would it have been better as a New Adult novel? Perhaps. But for someone who knows and loves Beauty and the Beast as much as I do, I really like how this managed to give me a few surprises. I thought I did, but when I finished the book I realized that I didn't know the exact story I was going to be told. Kudos, man. Kudos.

2.5 stars, marked up.

this was... easier to read than the previous book and I really, really wanted to like it. But honestly, that ending just sort of killed the entire thing for me.

I'll do a bundle review of the entire trilogy soon.

Captivating, beautiful and absolutely heart breaking. I have no idea how I'm going to survive after that ending.

Review to come.

2.5 stars

I probably wouldn't have disliked this as much as I did if it weren't for Cress, her POV and all the sappiness. Everything about her storyline just seemed so forced. It was a little painful, to be honest.

preferred this to Cinder, but still didn't love it as much as I wanted to.
