I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
I'm sorry to say that I was actually very... unmoved by this.
I liked the buildup we were given in the first chapter, when we were suddenly told that Edie and her mom needed to leave their home. I was excited. I was ready for mystery and drama and a roller coaster ride... but immediately given a bunch of chapters in which our bland MC complained and whined and was mean to her mother and the first person to be nice to her at her new school.
I didn't hate the book. I liked how it tried to talk about real issues like bullying, racism and domestic abuse. These are real issues that need to be talked about... I just didn't think it was executed very well in this book. It all seemed very staged to me.
The characters were a little bland, their development thin, and I found it hard to really care about them.
Overall, the story was decent. Just lacking a little emotion.
