This book totally lived up to the hype and even though it's not my favourite book ever, it's a pretty good and insightful book.
I loved the friendship between Frances and Aled, it was so heartwarming and cute, it was the perfect winter read!
I will be honest, there were times that Aled acted like a jackass, but I loved the way everything was resolved in the end!
Also the whole aspect of going/not going to university hit very close to home and brought tears to my eyes, so kudos to Oseman for that!

Don't really know what to say about this book. On one hand I enjoyed it immensely, on the other hand, I couldn't wait for it to be over. I think I fell into the hype trap, expecting to love this not only as much as everyone else, but as much as I loved "The Secret History".
Tartt's writing will forever be one of my favourites, she has an brilliant way with words that makes every novel of hers, feel so sophisticated.
As for the characters, i didn't like any of them, but what's new?

This is my first Agatha Christie book and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was such a quick and invigorating read, I was dying to know who did it! What impressed me the most was the POV, I loved reading all the events from that particular person's point of view!
Overall, it was a very good introduction to Christie's work, but unfortunately, I didn't find the plot twist as shocking as I hoped. The thrilling aspect was a bit missing for me, but I'll definitely try her other novels as well, since I find her a very intresting author!

The second book featuring Gwendolyn Gray, and I was so excited to read it, considering I loved the first one!
This time, the story takes us to Faeoria and even darker places, as the Mister Men get out of hand and Gwendolyn has to try even harder to save her world and her friends!
I will be honest, I didn't like this book as much as the first one, mainly because faeries aren't really my thing. I enjoyed the steampunk world of Tok way more, but in this book, I really enjoyed seeing Gwendolyn grow, physically and emotionally.
Old characters and new, all come together to create a compelling story that I'm sure every middle grader, or even adult, would enjoy!

I should have started reading V.E. Schwab sooner, that's for sure.
A lovely, spooky little book that felt like a fairytale, something along the lines of Brothers Grim! It was short, it was enjoyable and it definitely hooked me from the first few pages, couldn't put it down for the life of me!
I loved how well crafted the characters were, I found the story simple yet very rich at the same time and Schwab's prose is as lyrical as it needs to be, so as not to bore the reader.
The bits of romance were exactly the right amount for my liking and even though there was a love triangle, it wasn't that significant to bother me much.
Only two things kind of weren't to my liking though. First, I found that the whole resolve came a bit too quickly, in a matter of a few pages the "bad guy" was defeated and I wanted just a bit more, tbh. The next is way more trivial and something completely personal, but I didn't really like the names of some of the characters! I didn't feel like the went well with the story and the setting, but that's something completely personal, so don't let it affect you in any way!
Overall, lovely book and I'll definitely read more of her works in the future!

A high fantasy that felt very domestic and homey as well! It's very difficult to describe how a book about magic and medieval kingdoms made me warm inside but that's exactly what Hobb managed to do!
We follow Fitz literally from the first moments, he is only 5-6 years old when he enters the picture and this book ends with him on his mid-teens. So it's a book with a fairly young protagonist, but the stakes are pretty high and the feeling of peril never leaves the reader, especially on the last few chapters!
I also loved the writing, some may say it can be a bit dense but I think it was really fitting for the story, because sometimes it really read like a fairytale!
Fitz as a character is an interesting one to follow, his moral compass is always developing and changing and as I was reading, I got the feeling that's he's really shaping up to be a very good person!
As for the magic system, it's fairly simple but that doesn't mean it isn't engrossing. Being able communicate with others so fast and using your mind in order to create illusions, etc is something that really captivated me and it was a welcome respite from the very elaborate magic systems newer fantasy books tend to have.
Overall, I loved it and cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel as well!

A book loved by many and since I love a good young adult thriller, I decided to pick it up! Unfortunately for me, it didn't live up to the hype, even though I really wanted it too!
The start was very strong, which surprised me and really made me keep reading, because often enough, thrillers have a slow start, to build up suspense!
This one started out strong and I was hoping it would continue like that, but unfortunately as we were nearing the middle and then the end, it started deflating. There was no climax by the end of the book and when I realized that the mystery wouldn't be solved in this book, but it would (most likely) be solved in the third book, I felt a little disappointed.
The characters were interesting, some of them more than others, and I found myself more drawn to the flashbacks than the present. The chapters that took place in 1936 were so intriguing and the atmosphere in these ones, was so much more palpable than the chapters taking place in the present.
Stevie's deducting skill were impressive, I liked her as a character, I just would have liked a more in depth exploration of her. What more, I felt like the romance was a bit abrupt, I wasn't expecting it to happen and I'm not sure what purpose it serves. Maybe we'll see in the sequel!
Overall, it's an interesting book, but I would have liked it to be a bit more thrilling and suspenseful! I'll probably continue with the series, just not right now.

I wanted to read this book ever since I found out it's quite similar to The Secret History, a book I absolutely adored when I read it last summer!
Thankfully, even though it has similar vibes to The Secret History, it was its own book, its own story, a story I really liked!
First of all, what I loved most was the fact that it was exactly the dose of theater I needed to get my through this social distancing time! I loved all the Shakespearean references, I loved that our group were theater students and I have to say, props to the author for capturing an actor's feelings so accurately!
Overall, it was a very engaging read, I significantly preferred the chapters of the past, instead of the chapters taking place in present time, but thankfully those weren't many.
So now you may ask, Niki why only 3 stars? Why not more? Well, it's because I found the ending a bit weak. We know that Oliver ends up in jail from the synopsis of the book, and the events that lead him there, aren't events I could really justify. The actual culprit didn't have a strong enough reason, at least in my eyes, to leave Oliver to rot in jail and the fact that in the end he ended up with a character that (I believed) was no good for him from the beginning, was something I didn't really like.
The ending was a bit anticlimactic, considering the amazing scenes we got on Halloween and while they performed Caesar! The whole atmosphere of the book was so palpable and dark and I just felt a bit let down by the ending.
All in all, it's a book that I would definitely recommend to people, especially for the atmosphere and the mystery and hopefully the ending will be more to your fancy than it was to mine!

A book with an amazing premise that unfortunately didn't deliver all I was hoping it would.
The opening chapters are quite thrilling, the first few pages are very gripping and we are introduced to our main characters and the setting. As the chapters move on, unfortunately, I was losing my interest more and more and the fact that the characters had very little personality to them is to blame.
In a fantasy book, world building is key. We need to know the rules, we need to know the magic system, we simply need to know, if not all, at least some part of the backstory. This book didn't have world building and that made it difficult for me to really understand the world and the Ferriers and their rules and gods.
The book follows three different POVs and that's something else that hinder my enjoyment, not because I don't like first person POVs (which I don't), but because it made the writing style a bit clumsy. The reader reads every POV, so the reader knows everything that's going on. Each character though doesn't, so for example Sabine sees Jules walking in the woods. We know from a previous chapter, that Jules left to get provisions for their hide out. Sabine doesn't know that and what the reader reads is something alone the lines of "this must be the girl that helped abduct my best friend, why is she out?, Have they hidden her somewhere close?" etc. The reader has the answer to all this questions, so they clearly serve no purpose and it's a very tiring pattern.
Talking more about the characters, I think I needed more info about them to actually like them. Their exploration was very surface level and the romance also seemed rushed, because it wasn't showed to us. It just happened, we didn't see the feelings changes, which could have been easily done, since we get a separate POV for each of them.
All in all, it's a book that I didn't like not because of the story, but because of the execution. I think more world building, more character depth and a change in the POVs, so to avoid repetition, would have made this novel one of my absolute favourites.

This is my second Agatha Christie novel and I have a strange relationship with them. I find the start quite slow, then the middle picks up a bit and as soon as I'm convinced I don't really like the book, the ending blows my mind!
That's exactly what happened with the novel as well. I liked the start, I was a bit bored during the middle but then the ending was really worth it!
The story was pretty interesting, I'm always trying to solve the crime along Poirot but I haven't succeeded as of yet! It was a solid mystery with a big cast of possible suspects and I was very eager to find out what will finally happen in the end.
The ending had a lovely twist I wasn't expecting, but nonetheless I loved it! It's dry a lovely mystery, with many unexpected turns and also has a funny aspect as well! Will definitely read more of Agatha Christie on the future!
