The Near Witch by V.E. Schwab
4.0

I should have started reading V.E. Schwab sooner, that's for sure.

A lovely, spooky little book that felt like a fairytale, something along the lines of Brothers Grim! It was short, it was enjoyable and it definitely hooked me from the first few pages, couldn't put it down for the life of me!

I loved how well crafted the characters were, I found the story simple yet very rich at the same time and Schwab's prose is as lyrical as it needs to be, so as not to bore the reader.

The bits of romance were exactly the right amount for my liking and even though there was a love triangle, it wasn't that significant to bother me much.

Only two things kind of weren't to my liking though. First, I found that the whole resolve came a bit too quickly, in a matter of a few pages the "bad guy" was defeated and I wanted just a bit more, tbh. The next is way more trivial and something completely personal, but I didn't really like the names of some of the characters! I didn't feel like the went well with the story and the setting, but that's something completely personal, so don't let it affect you in any way!

Overall, lovely book and I'll definitely read more of her works in the future!
