essjay's Reviews (635)
Had actually been looking forward to reading this one for a while, but just didn't like being in Makepeace's head? The casual racism and constant threat of sexual violence were just not anything I'm terribly interested in reading rn.
I liked a lot of these up until their endings, many of which did not work for me. I'm not disappointed to have read it, and will likely check out more of the author's work in the future.
I might come back to this another time, bc I can tell that I'd really like it if I were more in the mood for something this depressing.
I don't even know what to say about this one. Not as gross or weird as other reviews led me to believe, but maybe my threshold for weird is higher? I was distracted trying to figure out what it reminded me of while I was reading, and still haven't put my finger on it.
I really do need to read more weird Scandinavian lit, tho, bc that is apparently my jam.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. I'm sure it will make people who like chocolate (I am not one of them) very hungry.
I was not expecting to give this many stars, especially since it's such a tiny novelette, but here we are. Always here for subversive faerie tale retellings.
I'm wondering if this author has ever been featured on r/menwritingwomen?
Poorly written (but the author tells you that on his website, so), poorly edited, predictable but somehow still confusing (what even were those action sequences?), just...bad.
It's a shame, too, bc I was super into the premise.

This was...fine. The separate elements were good, but it never really came together satisfactorily for me.
