I struggled to get into this.
The story and characters just didn't interest me. The synposis got me excited so I'm left disappointed.
The pacing didn't help. I felt it was too slow majority of the time. Making it difficult for me to want to pick back up eachday.
Towards the end I started to skim read it just to finish it.

I went into this expecting to love it. It seemed something I'd love.
However it took me so long to get interested in. It felt like it took forever to read 20%. The pacing was just too slow.

Another thing for me is it had too many POVs. I would of preferred 2 or 3 instead of 5. Sometimes I get muddled up when there's too many. I also tend to struggle connecting with characters if chapters are short and each chapter changing POV.
Catherine had to most interesting story for me. I'm interested to see where it goes.
Thankfully towards the last 3rd I became interested. The action picked up and made me want to pick up book 2 once it's out.

I went into this pretty blind. But I soon discovered it wasn’t my type of book. But I was still willing to carry on and give it a try. Hoping I would become interested. However the writing just isn’t for me. It came across too young.

Ursula came across younger than she actually is aswell. Instead of imagining a 15 year old I imagined a girl who could possibly be 10 maybe 11 at most. A little juvenile to me. Whether that was intentional or not I don’t know.

My other issue was at the beginning of every chapter is starts with “In which I…”. This gave away what each chapter was about. I understand it’s written as journal like entries however I prefer to go into chapters without a line summing up what each chapter is about.

Due to these problems I sadly ended up DNFing at 50%.

By the time I borrowed it from my library I had completely forgot what it was about, which I think helped make it more intriguing.

Karin writing is amazing. This didn't feel like a book over 500 pages. Infact I read it within a few hours. I was captivated from the beginning.

One of the protagonists is legally blind and walks with a cane. I'm happy about the diversity, I don't think I've read a crime/mystery/thriller with a character like Sam before.

The story itself started with a bang. With a short introduction to a life-changing event that happened to Charlie and Sam twenty eight years prior. leaving me wanting more. I wanted to know what happened afterwards.

The plot twist had me shocked. I hadn't seen it coming. Nor did the truth about Huck. I had brushed off his weird behaviour after he learnt who Charlie's father was. I assumed he was judgemental like others in the town.
