The prologue alone got me hooked. A few short chapters were all it took to intrigue me. I ended up reading this within a few hours.
The writing is so captivating I just couldn’t put it down. I needed to know what happens. I needed to know the full story.
The whole story I didn’t see the ending coming. I was so focused on the woman. I saw some red flags but just like Emily I didn’t piece them altogether until it was too late.
The characters were incredibly written. Throughout the story I wondered what I was missing. Something felt off, now I know I was focusing on the wrong person just like Emily.

The writing is captivating. It's such a short book but it feels longer in a good way. Although I wouldn't of been against it being longer.
The characters transformation all felt very meaningful. They all seemed to learn things from Jade once she really found her voice and confidence to speak up for what she wants and feels.

I feel like I've read this type of book before. Girl loses kingdom/family, girls wants them back, girl gets help from boys. With the typical love triangle majority of YA fantasy books I've read have. However I loved this, It still has its own twist on a plot I've seen before. Instead of the girl being weak Theo pretends to be weak to manipulate her way out of trouble and to freedom.
The writing flows pretty easily. In fact I think this is one of the quicker YA fantasy books for me. Once I started I didn't want to stop. I was captivated, I wanted to know where the story was going and how much of a love triangle this had. I think book two will have more, this was more hinting than a full on love triangle which I loved. I usually hate them but I'm interested to see where this one goes.
I'm excited to see the world building continue and the magic elements progress as its all just starting here, but leaving me wanting more already.

I was excited to read this. The synopsis made me think it would be psychological suspense type of book. However I feel a little let down because of my own expectations.
The writing was different than usual, written as interviews, journal entries and book extracts. At some points I wished it wasn't just this. I felt it was missing something. I felt because of it just being interviews the characters didn't really grow or have much depth, making it difficult to really connect or have sympathy for them,
I still gave it 3 stars because despite this I was still intrigued how it would end. It didn't feel too slow or rushed.

I was hesitant to read this as I struggled with 'In A Dark, Dark Wood'. But I'm glad I gave this a try.
It did take a few chapters to really get going but once it did I didn't want to stop. I needed answers. What happened to Maud? Who is Hal's father?.
Throughout the book I had a few theories for both questions. I ended up sort of being correct with who Hal's father was. But I didn't see it coming what happened to Maud, although looking back I probably should of.
The writing flowed a lot better than the previous book I read. I did expect it to be darker, more intense type of book but it was still very enjoyable. I recommend it.
