I don’t really like doling out five stars to any decent book I come across. I only give 5 stars to books that are really really good with ultimately 0 flaw (though, lets be realistic, nothing is ever flawless.) I even have some rules about giving 5 stars to books, like does this book make feel nostalgic? does this book makes me feel better about myself / my life? does this book has strong female characters and zero dumb love interest? if the answer is yes to all those, chances are I might give the book 5 stars. Sometimes it’s a bit complicated than that. I’m more likely to give 5 stars to books with 800 pages rather than the one with 200 pages. I love door stopper books, what can I say. Plus it really gives me more chance to get to know the characters.

Night film is one of those rare books which I found interesting even from page one and one of those books that truly scared me (other actually scary horror book that scared the shit out of me are IT, the shining, pet sematary, and that one book about Bloody Mary). It’s a story about a mysterious horror movie director Cordova and his family. I'm not going to spoil anything here, my one and only advice is just go pick up this book and read it now. It’s dark, it’s ominous, it’s mysterious, it gives me goosebumps, it’s creepy as hell. The aspects in this book like the cult and witchy, dark magic, really thrilled me. Reading this book is like opening an intricate fold of paper. Really, the mystery, the never ending chasing for the truth! from the main characters. You’ll never get bored. It was a wild ride from start to finish and I would definitely recommend this book for everyone to read.

This book has all the quality of a good book. Strong female character? check. A cute love interest? check. Fairytale retelling? damn it, check check check.
What I love about Cinder is she's not your typical female heroines. She's not perfect, she's not pretty, heck she's not even human. She's covered in oil most of the time, she loves machine and she actually has other friends she cares about (Iko, her sister..). When she went to the dance, she was not dressed up pretty. She was wet from the rain, she was dirty, and when every heads turn to look at her it wasn't from awe. But she overcame all of her flaw by being a good fucking person. She truly cares about the well being of others and not just herself. She doesn't get uncharacteristically violent when other people don't do what she wants. She's one of those rare characters that I found truly grow and it's fucking awesome. If i could rate this book 100/5 I would. God knows it deserves it.

Oh my God… That was… that was beautiful. I…

Okay.

Sniffles.

There aren’t many books that could make me feel the way I do right now. I feel this kind of longing for the world in this book. It’s horrible, it’s beautiful, it’s dark, and it makes me think of a night with stars above and people just looking up. It’s beautiful. It’s other-worldly. It’s eerie.
Station Eleven is a story about the end of the world and how it continues on. It’s about all these characters that knew Arthur Leander, an actor who died right before the end of the world from a heart attack: his ex-wives, his son, his best friend, the girl who was in the same play with him the night he died, the guy who interviewed him and was also the one who tried to save him. It’s about a travelling musician and actors, people who love music, and Shakespeare. This is a book about survival, and most importantly friendship and humanity.

I love the details of this book. Those little parts that leave you in awe because of how little but how important they are. These details make the characters. And those Dr. Eleven comics, how Kirsten recited the quotes from the comic to the prophet. Everything about this book is perfect to me, from the setting, the characters / development, those beautiful words, how well written it is and I even cried a little at the ending because I just didn’t want this to end.

“I stood looking over my damaged home and tried to forget the sweetness of life on Earth”
“A fragment for my friend—
If your soul left this earth I would follow and find you
Silent, my starship suspended in night”

I would definitely recommend this for everyone I know.
10/5 stars.

actual rating 3.5
i have finally given up and joined the throne of glass bandwagon.

So many people I know who likes to read are mostly into this series and it kind of intimidates me how high people rate this book and how much they love it. I was afraid that when I read this I'd be disappointed so I postponed reading this one until I'm ready. Now I am.

A few months ago i read a review saying that throne of glass is a cinderella retelling and i love those kind of stories. but when i read tog the only thing that reminded me of cinderella was the ball, but that's okay. i love celaena, she's the type of strong female character I've been always rooting for but i also think that she's way too perfect, is she a mary sue? I don't know, i need to read the second book to find out. But here is celaena just 18 years old but known to everyone as the most famous assassin, she's beautiful, blonde, and perfect. She loves to read (which I'm sure makes all the bookworm out there swoon like we do over hermione), she can play the piano, and evidently so much smarter and funnier than any girls Dorian has ever met. Everyone is dull compared to her. You see what I'm talking about?

The only thing that actually piss me off about this book is the love triangle, though. I just don't see the chemistry between Dorian and Celaena. I mean it's cute that Dorian is acting like a lovesick puppy but I just don't feel it and Chaol is all angsty and quiet. I hoped Chaol and Dorian are closer, I hope I'll get to see more of their friendship and the love triangle /wince/ between them and cealena won't turn into a bloody, angsty mess.

So, tog has some of that cinderella essence, the hunger game essence, and harry potter-ish essence (bad monster roaming secret passages in the old castle? very COS to me!). the writing is OK. The romance is cute sometimes. I figured out who let out the monster out to roam the castle and when celaena thought it was Nehemia I thought it was a really poor detective work on her part. And her reasoning when she went to the ball was also pretty stupid. She thought Nehemia was going to let the monster out in the ball and killed everyone and she could probably help if shit hits the fan? Where did she even draw that conclusion from? It's pretty far fetched, I think. I mean, girl please, you just wanted to go out and dance just admit it, it's no sin to want to have fun. Did i find anything original here? not really. Again and again i found that nagging feeling in my head, hm i feel like this is similar to this and that.

But anyway, I rated this 3.5 because it's not really that bad. Definitely will read the second book and hopefully it'll get better.

This book is about revenge.

I love it.
Edmond Dantes has been wronged by so many people, he was naive, young, and weak. After he got falsely accused of being a traitor to his King and country and got imprisoned, Dante plotted his revenge. At first of course he was resigned to his faith, but after years and years he finally grew some spine and did what he had to do. He escaped his prison, he changed his name, he got rich as hell and then he met the people who wronged him in the past, befriended them, and when the time was right he either ruined them / killed them / made them kill themselves. An incredibly satisfying read, in my opinion. Very slow paced in the beginning but it ended brilliantly.

DNF.

It was interesting for a while, a group of people applied for a job and woke up in an island, not knowing how they got there or how to get out. I wanted to keep on reading but I didn't like the characters. if I was trapped in an island with some blokes I didn't know I wouldn't flirt with them or think about getting laid. I would actually try to get the hell out. Instead these people talk about their favourite TV shows and video games, which wasn't very fun. I also read a review saying that the ending isn't very satisfying.
