Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
5.0

Oh my God… That was… that was beautiful. I…

Okay.

Sniffles.

There aren’t many books that could make me feel the way I do right now. I feel this kind of longing for the world in this book. It’s horrible, it’s beautiful, it’s dark, and it makes me think of a night with stars above and people just looking up. It’s beautiful. It’s other-worldly. It’s eerie.
Station Eleven is a story about the end of the world and how it continues on. It’s about all these characters that knew Arthur Leander, an actor who died right before the end of the world from a heart attack: his ex-wives, his son, his best friend, the girl who was in the same play with him the night he died, the guy who interviewed him and was also the one who tried to save him. It’s about a travelling musician and actors, people who love music, and Shakespeare. This is a book about survival, and most importantly friendship and humanity.

I love the details of this book. Those little parts that leave you in awe because of how little but how important they are. These details make the characters. And those Dr. Eleven comics, how Kirsten recited the quotes from the comic to the prophet. Everything about this book is perfect to me, from the setting, the characters / development, those beautiful words, how well written it is and I even cried a little at the ending because I just didn’t want this to end.

“I stood looking over my damaged home and tried to forget the sweetness of life on Earth”
“A fragment for my friend—
If your soul left this earth I would follow and find you
Silent, my starship suspended in night”

I would definitely recommend this for everyone I know.
10/5 stars.
