There is a reason why people aren't supposed to wait days until they review the books they've read. I finished this one four days ago, after ravishing it within 48 hours, and I gave it 4,5 stars.
Now four days later, I am seriously debating giving it 4 stars or even 3,5 stars.
This book has a heavy miscommunication trope, not just the 3/4th romance type. Their miscommunication is hilarious because they actually communicate in the book! They talk for ages and about almost every part of their lives, but when it counts- they don't say a single syllable to each other.
The audiobook is...something special. There is so much background noise and random white noise, which is quite annoying. I do, however, like that there are two narrators who complement each other nicely.

Can you truly be happy if you know that someone is taking on all that sadness, guilt, and misery?
I like to think, that we as humans, can not be truly happy with our lives and ourselves if we know that someone is suffering because of it. Maybe that stems from my optimistic views on the human race but I like to think the best of people.

I still love this story, hate her name, and loath Aspen.
I truly don't understand why this is a 5 part series when it could be 3 or 4 parts. I felt like a lot that happened in this book could've been in book 1 or 3. Not a lot of important stuff that needed its own book.

This is the royal edition of Bachelor, which was clear from the synopsis. I loved the story, flaws and all, even though it's cliche, cringy and annoying at times.
Her name is the first thing that's truly annoying, America Singer? Really? The author couldn't find any other name that's less cringy? Unfortunately, I get the story behind it that doesn't change the fact it's cringy as hell.
She's also a "not like the other girls" type of girl. She doesn't want to be called gorgeous and strives to be different than everyone else. "I'm only here for the food," Really? You're in a humongous castle, filled to the brim with everything you could desire, including the prince, and you just want the food?

This is the first book in the series that I can fully emerge myself into the political views. (I might loathe the King more than Aspen, which is surprising in itself).
We finally get a worthy explanation of the southern and northern rebels, which in my mind are spot on America's political stand today. The northern rebels are peaceful; sure, they sometimes use force to get their point across, but they never kill or hurt anyone. Meanwhile, the southern rebels do everything in their means to hurt people, getting their points across because they hurt and kill people.
America is also SO with the people. The kingdom is biased and built on a simplistic way of sorting people into ranks of how worthy they are. Rank 2 or 3 can buy their way out of a sentence but ranks 4 through 8 are forced to unfair jail times for petty crimes? Their laws are so incredibly foolish and make you wonder about human rights. The selected girls are property to the country, and any relations to other people is treason and punishable by death?? America knows this is wrong and doesn't blindly follow it because "it is how it is." I loved her during the sentencing; she stood her ground and tried to get the other girls to follow her leadership.
I think everyone is able to guess how the selection ends, seeing this is a Young Adult Romance series but the end absolutely blew me away. I wanted to cry, aw and giggle with amusment at the same time. America is the leader this country needs; she is fair and is with the people, not the kingdom built on decades-old traditions and biases.

I wanted to love this book. I honestly tried so hard to fall in love with it, but.....Not a chance.
I am debating with myself if it's worth 2 or 3 stars right now. I'm just glad I didn't physically buy this book.
The Hating Game is supposed to be an 'enemies to lovers,' but there's almost no angst, no sabotaging, no fights, no angrily confessing their feelings or anything that makes this trope so good. Lucy is literally in love with him after 1/3 of the book?! Nopes, not a chance. I was hoping for a big moment of sabotage while they competed for the same position, especially after Joshua took a day off and had the strange calls.
I was disappointed.
ALSO, the smut in this book?? Did a 13-year-old write that part because it was so cheap. They had all this sexual tension built up from the start, they tease each other and take it slow- which usually ends in hot and steamy sex, but the smut was just "eh."
