What was once just a year-long challenge has turned into a subset of my reading! Books from the past has  been fun and great for light reads since most of them has been children's lit.

We are still in the books that I remember pretty clearly. The movie, the series. This was always covered since it's early so I recalled the story beats but it was like a new read in other ways. I'm still enjoying the writing style and tone. With Tim Curry as the narrator, I find myself chuckling at times with line delivery. Very tongue in cheek. I appreciate that these books also teach words and phrases throughout, giving in-context definitions. Some are better than others, though.

This was a book club book! We chose a manga to have a short read. One of our member is moving out of New York T.T so we wanted to squeeze in one more meeting this month before they left. I found out about this book from them!

This was a needed light read after the last book and kept my reading momentum going as I remember not feeling motivated to read at this point in the year. These two main characters are SO CUTE. We read the first volume which consisted of the first 37 chapters of the series. I was able to get a physical copy from the library and I love that i did! There are some full color pages and the entire color scheme of green and black is so cool. Very brat! Loved this one and love lesbians. Let's go lesbians let's go! There are more chapters so maybe I'll continue one day.

This was a book club book! I think I'd heard of it on social media somewhere but it's another that I wouldn't have picked up otherwise. Let's go, book club!

A very challenging read, though. Brutal topic with some horrific story beats. I found it tough to follow at times too. This may be because I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by a cast of actors for each character. While immersive, it wasn't an audiobook that you could listen to while doing other things, which I am always doing with audiobooks. I may have enjoyed this more physically but I couldn't get a copy from the library in time for our meeting. I had to listen on Spotify which is usually my last resort for audiobooks. If I had read it physically then I would have more easily followed the narrative.

That all to say, the characters here are vivid and beautiful and are put through oh my god so much.

Y'ALL. This series is so thrilling to be reading. I'm loving them all so much that I can tell this is a lifetime favorite that I am reading through for the first time!

The authors are so skilled at writing dialogue and creating characters that feel so alive as you read. The exciting drama and intergalatic adventure is so well crafted too. Every book has clever ways of bringing all the main perspectives to one place (seems to be the Roci typically!) and I like that kind of sitcom-like repetition in such lengthy epics. I don't mean lengthy negatively at all because I love how the books take their time to craft a narrative and build suspense.
I'm reading book 5 currently and the next one!!!!! I didn't even know what was coming and how much this could continue to come into play with the fucking planet eruption???? wow

10/10 space epics, these books, the novelas, the short stories, i'm in love

This was a book club read! I like when a nonfiction book makes its way into my reading. I'm drawn to fiction so naturally that a nonfiction book can be refreshing sometimes.

The book describes the white gay experience in nutshell. Clubbing, sex, drugs, more sex, more clubbing. The author finds his partner for life and they are slutty together all over Europe and... New York? LA? I'm writing this months after reading so the details are hazy. I remember being put off a bit by the author's perspective. Though, there were many parts that felt very validating as a gay man(ish) myself. This made me want to read more of James Baldwin actually because I found similar feelings when reading Giovanni's Room. Add more James Baldwin to the TBR!!

I wouldn't have know about the book if not for the book club, and it made for a good discussion with friends!

It became too cringey for me. The Harry Potter references were boring alongside the endless other brands and media references that feel lazy to be honest. The characters are in New York and the one that’s from the city chooses to go to a place in Timesquare? It just doesn’t seem like it makes logical sense. I didn’t get excited about the characters either that much.

Imagine my shock though when one of the main characters Arthur is from basically my hometown and references Milton and Roswell Georgia a couple times. Didn’t know that was part of this book but maybe that played a role in why I put it on my TBR in the first place.

Another amazing entry in this series. Thank goodness the day I decided to read this series because it's time and time again reinforced my love for science fiction!!

I found the characters to be vibrant and their personalities are so well written through dialogue and actions. The dialogue also making me cry and laugh at different points shows its impact.
Really loved "You can't try to make me fall for you, Cap, because you know it'll never work out" from Amos to Holden after Holden pushed Murtry to the ground. Also fuck Murtry!!!!!! Once she was over her lust for Holden,
Elvi became my one of my favorite characters. Of course with her focus on biology. Will the series deliver me a chemist? I would GEEK OUT.

This was really fun! The premise is silly and it reads very naturally as online chats. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I found it through the Books Unbound podcast recommended by Raeleen. I’m reading another of her recent reads next.

I thought the main plot was well done and the escalation was well timed and kept the light tone throughout.
Not entirely sure how he got back out of slack at the end though? They got slackbot into Gerald with the spreadsheet but didn’t really say (I think???) how he got out.

Gerald was wayyyyyyy too okay with Pradeep sleeping with his body while slackbot controlled it??? That’s really strange and the consent ethics are all over the place. And that led to Gerald confessing feelings? Idk I don’t think we needed them to actually sleep together until once Gerald was back in his body. The final conversation was a bit strange bc why would they speak so frankly about having sex on slack where it’s been mentioned the bosses can read what you say? Would have fathered it have been a convo btw Pradeep/gerald and someone else to give the same info but after it happened.

The romance with Beverly and Tripp. Didn’t care for. Couldn’t parse their nonsense emoji speak and also I don’t even use slack so when they started doing the emojis with only some of the letters I wasn’t sure if something would appear for if that partiality was the joke, ah well lol

Robb’s story is hilarious through and through.

In the end, an enjoyable feel-good read that has a nice message of the interconnected nature of relationships and connected between strangers. So many characters for such a short book. If I read this again, I’d make a web of them all to better keep track because he will jump from story to story without pause!
