Loved the introduction of the Quagmire triplets in this one. It's refreshing to have our main characters interact with other children finally. They've, I think, been exclusively with adults this entire time in the series so far. Shame they were then promptly taken away T.T We are getting to the hazy parts of what I remember from this series from when I was younger. I know the next one has to do with a tall building and going up many flights of stairs.
I think this is the one where Violet and Klaus are forced to try each other's specialties and that is a nice change of pace for them!

I don't understand why they would choose to change the nicknames of Sun's Pokemon in the English translation. In Japanese, his Pokemon are all named after real-life currencies or something money related. In the translation, that is still true but just different currencies? It's an odd choice.
Read this one while on vacation and it was delightful to read while waking up on the beach.

The battle with the totem wishiwashi was a bit dragged out. The random golfer elite four member already is getting more depth here which is a potential good sign for the depth I wanted them to explore with this gen.

The action has started picking up and now I'm getting more invested in the story. Moon is quickly becoming a new favorite. I like that she has poison types which fits well with her pharmacist characterization. She has to know about them to find cures! Cool stuff. Hau appeared and then disappeared just as quickly. Tough stuff, the XY friends/rivals got more time, at the detriment of my enjoyment so maybe Hau can stay to the side for now.

I've decided to collect this manga series physically and I'm starting with this arc! I'll continue to read them physically and then collect the ones I've already read as I find them.
I feel like they chose to make both main characters from other regions to mimic a Japanese child would go to move to or visit Hawaii. I still would have liked at least one of them to be a native from Alola, though. Really love that Moon is a pharmacist. Women in STEM! This generation's story could be done really well in the manga if they decide to go more serious like in older arcs, so I'm hopeful for what's to come.

I think I like the idea of puzzle mystery novels more than actually reading one. The beginning referred to Agatha Christie one too many times for me. The book literally refers to the Christie novel it is based on and it's a bit too on the nose for me.
Raeleen on the Books Unbound podcast read this one and got me interested but turns out we don't align on taste this time!
Believe me or not but I did guess right on the murderer before reveal! The puzzle is good and the reveal satisfying.

Red and Green are here!! I love when the other characters team up. They don't do that as much when in new generations now. They used to when there was more inter-gen stories. Potentially another product of the yearly serialization of Pokemon by the Pokemon Company.
Anyway... the stakes are going up!!I'm not sure if the reveal happens in this volume that Archie and Maxie are like avatars or like spiritual rebirths??? strange stuff and I love it.

Finally picked up this series after so long! And now I'm writing this review months later trying to remember what I can say about it. Hoenn gets points from me always. I love any time we get to revisit Ruby and Sapphire. (Not me rooting for a straight couple!) The ending chapter with the Archie and Maxie reveal was exciting though!
