No! That can't be how this book ends! NO!

I love how much queer representation this series has. I love that it's such a good fantasy series too. I love the characters and I love the world-building. I love the intrigue and the plot twists and I hate the cliffhanger at the end but I love that this is a four book series instead of a standalone.

It is looking a lot like I'm going to end up buying these.

I don't even know what to say about this other than that it's everything I want from a fantasy book.

I might have to consider buying this but I'll read the rest of the series before I decide.

This book was amazing! I feel like it's been really long since I read a good fantasy book and this is it.
It's not too much fantasy, mostly it's about an Empire and a rebels and intrigue and spying and some ancient assholes who never give straight answers but give you the vibe that they know a shit ton more than they're saying.

I really loved the characters here and I loved to read about them and their development throughout the story and somehow I fell in love with a lot of them.

However, I did not fall in love that both of the MC's have multiple love interests... I could rant about that but I don't really feel like it right now. But even that isn't enough to make me bump this down to 4 stars. It's a 5 star book.

I was underwhelmed.

This is quest, not a love story or political intrigue. Sure, there are little crumbs of each of those sprinkled throughout the book but it's nothing compared to the original trilogy.

Oak and Suren remind me a little of Cardan and Jude, there's the same undercurrent of mischief and yearning. But I would've liked more of that.
I found myself not caring much for the book or what was happening, the court politics didn't really interest me and they weren't too much referenced which was kind of unexpected seeing as the Folk of the Air trilogy was pretty much all political intrigue. And just like The Cruel Prince, this one didn't have much of romance either.
Really, there wasn't enough of political intrigue OR enemies to lovers romance that would've made it stand up to the expectations of the previous books.

However, the ending makes me think there's plenty of hope for the sequel.

I listened to the audiobook and I listened the whole thing in two sittings.

I don't really have many thoughts about this other than it was nice to get a glimpse behind the scenes and I was entertained. (I guess it's weird to be entertained by someone's life and not even a very nice life either.)

This one took me a little longer to read than I thought it would but I think that's because I was reading so much just before starting this and needed a little break.

This would've been 5 stars if I had been more hooked in and didn't put it down. Also, the world building situation is getting really weird because I haven't read the original trilogy. I didn't even know there was an original trilogy until AFTER I finished the first book of this duology. The world building didn't bug me in the first book but now it's getting harder to ignore.

I didn't realize this book has illustrations! It looks like a storybook!

Pierce Brown has managed to wow me again. Somehow these books never stop being entertaining and I keep reading them even when my e-reader tells me it's going to be 2000 pages.

This series was so much fun to read.
