The Stolen Heir
by Holly Black
I was underwhelmed.
This is quest, not a love story or political intrigue. Sure, there are little crumbs of each of those sprinkled throughout the book but it's nothing compared to the original trilogy.
Oak and Suren remind me a little of Cardan and Jude, there's the same undercurrent of mischief and yearning. But I would've liked more of that.
I found myself not caring much for the book or what was happening, the court politics didn't really interest me and they weren't too much referenced which was kind of unexpected seeing as the Folk of the Air trilogy was pretty much all political intrigue. And just like The Cruel Prince, this one didn't have much of romance either.
Really, there wasn't enough of political intrigue OR enemies to lovers romance that would've made it stand up to the expectations of the previous books.
However, the ending makes me think there's plenty of hope for the sequel.
