I received an Advanced Readers Copy of “The Killer in Me” from Dutton Publishing and this is my first of Olivia Kiernan’s books I have read. This is definitely a thorough crime mystery that spares no details of the murders of differing people in a community. I have never been to Ireland but Kiernan wrote with great detail that helped readers picture the surroundings of this mysterious novel. I really enjoyed this book because I often read psychological thrillers, and reading a crime mystery was a good change of pace. I liked the book but thought the amount of characters introduced could be confusing, as well as, an unclear ending.
By popular recommendation I brought Carrie along with me on my vacation and I finished this quick read in one day! This was my first ever Stephen King book that I’ve read and sadly I was not too big of a fan (but I have a few others I’m going to give a shot). Carrie was definitely an interesting read, but I could not get past the way the novel was set up without chapters and the switching from perspectives frequently without warning. I also did not find it too scary which I was expecting to but then again the book was written over 40 years ago. I did enjoy the open ended ending though! I am going to try watching the movie soon to see if that helps me appreciate the book more.
I absolutely loved Daisy Jones & the Six! I finished this one last night and it just really stuck with me. I love the way Daisy was written with the bandmates memories all in dialogue with one another. It felt like a very intimate story and being able to hear all of the perspectives of one event made it even better. The way the narrator related to the story gave me goosebumps right until the very end.TJR has easily become one of my favorite authors after reading this and Evelyn Hugo and I am definitely going to be reading her other books soon.
This is one of the most incredible books I have ever had the privilege of reading. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, although fictional, is a story that must be told and one that is of great importantance because of the representation present in this book. I connected so personally to Evelyn and other characters (no spoilers) while reading and this is one of those books that I wish I had the ability to read for the first time all over again. Evelyn Hugo describes such a deep love but also depicts a headstrong, driven, and independent woman who would do anything to succeed which is something I think we all need a bit of today.
I read The Dreamers in a few days and although it was a fast read, unfortunately this book did not live up to the hype for me. I really liked the concept for the story, but I would have loved for the book to follow and be told from the perspective of a few characters rather than the population of a whole town. The writing was beautiful, but it was hard for me to connect with the story as it was told from a third person narrative. If you enjoy science fiction or dystopian novels this is the book for you as it deals with themes of a mystery illness, but this was not enough to keep me engaged.
All I can say is, wow! This book really impressed me because usually romance novels take me forever to read, but this one hooked me right from the beginning and kept me interested until the very last page. What I especially loved is that the characters are complex and very real, which made reading the book even more enthralling. While I was reading I was wishing for more backstory about the characters and the plot, but I understand why the author chose to reveal information little by little. A great read with a nice cliffhanger at the end which makes me want to read Avoidance soon!
I just finished listening to this book on audible and I am more than happy with this beautiful book. A lot of the book is based on the romance of two teenagers with Cystic Fibrosis, but the story also focusses on representing the life of someone with CF. Before reading this book, I had not clue what the outcomes or struggles of CF were besides having problems with one's lungs, but this book gave representation to a genetic disorder that a lot of people are affected by. I loved the characters and found them relatable and well rounded. Overall, a really great book that I am glad I read before seeing the movie come out in March.
Such an incredible novel that shows the complexities of family life and its affects on the views of education. Tara truly left it all behind for her education because she felt she would progress farther and achieve more in her life. I loved the amount of backstory. The book felt as if you were reading fiction at some times because I could not believe that there are some families who do not believe in sending their kids to school.
I just finished One Day In December, and although it is a well written and very descriptive book, I could not get into it as much as I had hoped. I think I bought into the hype around the book too much and that may have skewed how good I thought the book should have been. I did really enjoy the story line, I just felt it was overly drawn out which caused me to lose attention. Overall, I still gave the book three stars because I would recommend it to those who enjoy romantic fiction and want a light read
