Horrific

This is easily up there with some of the worst books ive ever read in my life. It should be a crime for a book this bad to have such a following because its not deserved.
As an indie author myself its hard to criticise work of which i know the struggles that go into writing but this is just all kinds of terrible.

The MC Persephone is annoying, silly and uninteresting. The worldbuilding is shoddy, the plot is none existent. Hades is not that hot. The writing is terrible and the sex or lack there of is trash.

The stakes of their contract or whatever aren’t particularly high and the random sub plot of her journalism career and writing some inconsequential article about Hades was completely unnecessary and added nothing.

The overbearing mother in Demeter doesn’t even make sense. If shes so powerful, how does she not know whats going on for basically the entire book and why would she not want Persephone to be Mistress of the Underworld. There are worst things one could be!

I skimmed most of it cause it was just gut wrenchingly boring and completely overhyped.

Imagine: read this four times and never reviewed it so here we go.

HoF slows down a bit from the intense revelations of Crown of Midnight. We learn some valuable and saddening truths about Celaena and her past while meeting new enemies and allies both from within and without.
Rowan is obviously the shining light in this outing, that never changes, but where I previously felt a big bogged down by the witches portion of the book, i found so much to respect about Manon and her own growth.
I loved watching Chaol and Aedion interact and slowly dissecting how much of a tool Chaol was acting to be hated the way he is. What i see is a man loyal to his beliefs above all else and trying to maintain that balance of loyalty between two things he loves: his country and his friends. He felt betrayed and watching him shift through that waa intetesting.

I loved the flashbacks the most alongside the Mistward stuff but im not entirely sure what the cadre turned up to do if they didnt actually help during the fight.

Sad that about Sorcha considering she was another ethnic character but still, the ending was graphic and epic and i dig it!

This book is testament to what a really cool cover and word of mouth can do for you.
However, for all my indie authors out there, don't have an amazing cover with nothing substantial to back it up because Gild is terrible. It's worse than terrible, it's boring.

I skimmed through most of it because nothing much was happening and the main character committed the worst book crime imaginable and was completely uninteresting. I felt no connection to her and spent the majority of the book hating every stupid thing that came out of her mouth. There's naivety and then theres just plain stupidity and Auren is definitely the latter.

Auren is the 'favoured' of King Midas. He turned her gold - for reasons unknown - and keeps her caged up in his golden palace to apparently just watch him indulge himself in carnal exploits. There's some reference to them having a relationship prior to her being gold which i guess is meant to explain why she doesnt realise and/or care that this is an abusive relationship. No, she simply wants to be one of his coveted 'saddles - the word for whores apparently - and join in the rest of the sordid fun because she loooves him! She also randomly has ribbons coming out of her back. Like 24 long apparently silk like sentient like ribbons that just grow out of her back. For what purpose I have no idea because they do nothing when it matters other than elude to the fact that she's clearly something 'special'. Booo!

For reasons i wont bother sharing, Auren gets to leave the palace and what follows is a pointlessly drawn out journey of her making stupid decisions, getting her acquaintances killed and raped and revealing powers that i couldnt work out why she hadnt used up til now to protect herself or her companions. Not that she would need protecting since NOTHING EVER HAPPENS TO HER. She has Main Character Protection in that everyone else gets hurt because of her actions but she is miraculously saved from torture, rape, abuse etc. even though she is literally walking treasure. Why has noone cut off her finger yet?

What i also disliked about this book was the fact that the triggering elements felt forced. Dont add orgies/rape/abuse etc for click baits sake. It doesnt make it edgy, it makes it sordid and i really hated that about this.

Anyway, throw in some random pirate, drop in a long thought dead Fae race, elude to the fact that she is something that its clear she is already by this point and youve got yourself a train wreck of a book that i literally rolled my eyes at at every swipe of the kindle page.

As ever friends, you know i always want people to try books regardless of reviews to form their own opinions but this just isnt worth it. Great marketing, great cover but this is one hundred per cent disappointment in all other aspects. When she referred to one of the pirate's hat as 'a pirate hat' instead of a 'tricorn' I knew this needed to be in the bin.

Intense

My first adventure into the world of RH and it was an interesting ride to say the least.
Roxy was interesting at the start for me but then any possible pain from her previous life felt rather trivialised as soon as the kink came in and she became a completely different person. I didn’t like how cavalier she was with peoples lives, when doing sill things she knew would get them killed.
Of the four men, Kenzo is most definitely my favourite but i appreciate the dynamic of their personalities as well as the ability to make all their interactions different. Smut was great of course but the story was lacking but then i didn’t expect much lol

Short :/

The men that make up this little band are all very different and intriguing and Lera seems worthy of them in terms of spirit/personality. My biggest concern was how quickly she gains feelings for them and they here. I gather its Fantasy and thats the set up but the pace could have a been a bit more realistic

Tame

This book has me conflicted because while i really like the individual males and the writing is really good, its very very slow. The story, the smut lol the revelations. Its just very slow and i need something to happen. Definitely hooked in by ending on chapters that feel unfinished rather than appropriate cliffhangers but i also feel cheated lol considering their ebook price, they should be longer.

Missed potential

I was a little let down by the promise of dark fantasy which didnt really live up to the potential of what could have set up an epic tale. Loved the world building and the initial idea of Mave but she eventually fell a little flat
