Not enough going on and i wasnt excited to read it. Funny in bits and inclusive but just not fun considering its an adventure book

The Thread That Connects Us

DNF at 23% because it got very repetitive and i wasnt connecting with either of the two girls. One was moody and antagonistic and one was moody and impulsive and constantly reading that was a drain on my sanity. I wanted to know about the love story at the story but it was taking too long to get there

Well, the story itself wasnt depressing but the character of Tiwa was. A self righteous, anti social, ego maniac, she just complained the entire time about what i didnt consider anything that deep to complain about. I started this as a book but switched to the audio and i must admit, the narrator didnt help matters with her making Tiwa sound disinterested, droll and basically a bit of a bitch. It wasnt a pleasure to listen to and made me not want to continue.

Textually it was just really repetitive with the words Islamic centre and Eid said about 50 million times in one sentence alone. We know how much the centre means to you, we know you want to save Eid, we know you dont like Said at the moment. Why have you repeated this so many times in every chapter. Very very annoying.

Im not a grammar snob since i understand the trials of self publishing but this book had enough errors to notice that it really started to annoy me. Not only that but the errors made the sentences incomprehensible at times.

That out the way, the story was just a bit shit and the romance too insta-love to be funny or even believable. What also pissed me off is how many surnames the author put in to, i dunno, make it more Russian. Adding endless -ovs and -ievs does not make your book more authentic babes.

Overall just weak.

I really tried with this but it was just soooo boring!
7 POVs (I think) and only 2 of them were identifiable from the rest. The constant exposition and dialogue about absolutely nothing was just so tedious. I was listening at x1.9 and it JUST WOULDNT END!
There were just too many words that said absolutely nothing. Yes its epic Fantasy, yes it requires in depth world building but this was just tooo much!!
Poor Corban was the only one I care an iota about and even he started to piss me off Nathair had potential to be really interesting as i saw where his arc was going but it was just so incredibly DRY! Jeeezos! Needless to say I wont be continuing with this series. It might get great later but i dont gave the energy or patience to find out.
Im all for lasting end chapters but almost 70% into a book i shouldnt still be waiting for it to “get good”.

Mile High Daddy

Plot was all over the place. FMC was naive/stupid. MMC got in love too quickly, i needed more stoicism. Whys it call Mile High when they never banged in the air. What does Mikhail get out of the marriage alliance if the dad is so beneath him!? Who runs a mile when theyre 7 months pregnant at top speed with no stitch or cramp!? Who lies down and cries when theyre having what they think are contractions instead of actually telling someone theyre in pain!? Shes just an idiot and I was annoyed the whole time. Oh and they only banged 3 times by this point.

Not enough was happening that I actually cared about. The brother not finding out about them was dragged unnecessarily, minimal smut and the characters were too nice for there to be any conflict so it got really boring after a while. Why is there still so much to go with such low stakes!?

When I initially felt id been reading for a lifetime and realised it was only 8%, i knew there were going to be some problems. Not only was this book painfully slow, it didnt actually make that much sense.

Its a modern setting but the monarchy and FMC Aliyah speak like they live in Bridgerton which just didnt make sense. It was clear the author doesnt really know much about royalty or how upper class dialect is supposed to work. We dont say “is it not” after every question. It just read so childish and uninformed/researched. At one point she wrote him a letter and sealed it with wax. In a setting that has mobile phones. Noone actually does that anymore!!!

MMC Elliot was just too much of a simp for me. It was cute at the start but by the halfway mark he was still spitting soliloquies about her beauty and i was just over it. Theres nothing wrong with being cute but this was some serious overkill! How he didnt know who the ADOPTED BLACK princess was in a white royal family made NO sense.

Aliyah apparently makes all these changes in parliament or wherever but never goes outside. Then we throw in some random rape at the end!? (I skimmed the end after i gave up) Jeeezos this was insanity.

If you like cutest slow burns then whatever but this was really immature and the royalty element was forced and ridiculous.

I just don't care about this in anyway. Every time I think I've made a dent, i check the percentage and its still like 2 seconds in. Its tiring. The writing is dry, low in action, the characters arent particularly likeable or interesting and I just simply don't care. I've tried another book from VA and was surprised I was able to get through book 1 of this but I think VA is just not the writer for me.

I honestly have no idea what i was reading. Was that supposed to be funny? Cute? What!? Very very odd writing and world building was all over the place.
