What a boring book :(
Sorry to be so very blunt, but there was nothing remotely interesting or fulfilling about this third instalment in the Horsemen series.
What annoyed me about this more than the lack of smut (it literally doesn't occur until about 350 pages in and the book is 465 pages long), is that the idea of the horsemen, no longer makes much sense. It wasn't that well put together in the beginning, but the continued idea that these random men are travelling around the world on horseback, killing everything in sight for no good reason, just didnt hold together anymore. The women, while entertaining in their various personalities and backgrounds, dont do much but deny their feelings for hundreds of pages while watching them kill people while pretending theyre horrified by it.
In short, its silly and if it wasnt for my recent purchase of KU, I wouldnt have continued as i'd said i wouldnt when finishing the previous book.

Not as intense as the first book but still a great read. The writing is amazing, i really love the style and the 19th Century banter is always great. A bit drawn out to get to the juicy bits but good overall.

A Ruin of Roses

DID NOT FINISH

DNF at 45% cause it was just so incredibly boring. The plot was all over the place, the modern dialogue made no sense and got tedious after a while. Unnecessary profanity and by 45% there wasnt even any significant smut scenes.

Risque

Jasmine and Jafar are the kinky lovers in this loose Aladdin retelling.

While not a complete trash fest, there is a lot to be picked apart with the whole consent theme of this book. It is of course, very steamy but the opening smut scene, atleast for me was a bit much, no matter how much she claimed to want it.
Its a short one so the story isnt particularly heavy and thats okay. It makes sense, the work towards it, the end.
Theres a bit of F/F action which is cool although kinda random.
I wouldve like more about Ali and Jasmine and Jafar’s relationship before the novel as i felt this could have added more to the emotional connection between them.

So it looks like i'm deep in the world of orc smut and i'm not sorry about it!

As mentioned in my review of the first book in the Orc Sworn series, these books are akin to IPB in that the orcs while monstrous and unconventional looking, they are at heart lovely creatures who want to live care free in their mountain and breed women to make more orcs, simple.

Where the books really begin to open up is how Finley Fenn is expanding the world around them as well as the cultural, political and socio economic structure of the orcs. In this book we meet Natt who is destined to become a Speaker, an orc entrusted to speak and draw truths from those around him while having the magically ability to do so. Its an interesting power/concept and as the books go on, you learn so much more about what the orcs are capable of and how deep their familial structures go. Its really quite charming.

These books are very descriptive with some questionable sexy time but in the end it is all consensual and above board. This book however does take a bit of a dark turn when one of the orcs mentions his SA by a clan of enemy orcs. Uncomfortable to read (not described in any way) it added a sense of realism to the orcs in that good and bad things happen to them, just as they do to the humans and shows how the author is branching out to make their relationships more realistic and not only fantastical which i respect.

Again, lots of orc spunk lol and its clear now that yes, it is some kind of nutrition in order to fatten the women and keep them healthy to bare orc sons. I promise you, you cant make this stuff up! haha

My fellow Steam Queens and I chose to read this book for Monster May and I must say, it was an interesting one.

Jule is stolen from her home and abusive husband, by pillaging orcs and taken to their mountain as a prisoner. She is taken by the orc captain, Grimarr and is thrown into a back and forth with herseld about whether or not she can really have feelings for this ugly creature.

The plot itself is simple and well done enough but it did drag on for just a little too long. We all know youre gonna bang him Jule, stop denying it. Furthermore, stop acting like you dont like it even when its happening!

Unbelievably Touching!

This series just keeps getting better!!!
While not nearly has dark as Scarred, Wretched is cleverly written as always but also so incredibly moving that you dont expect from a book of this nature. The inclusion of Classic poetry from Shakespeare, Keats and Emily Dickinson among others are so nicely woven into the narrative that despite the content, it all works soo well!

Eveline is the daughter of a drug dealer and Nicholas is the cop charged with hunting the crime family down. When he goes undercover to do this, he finds himself falling for the pessimistic Eveline in a big way that neither of them expected.

I dont usually give saucy books 5s but this is a major exception just for the cleverness of the writing, the smut scenes, the realistic dialogue and the dare i say sophistication thats injected with the poetry. Its sexy, a little bit dingy but also very fun and unexpectedly sweet in a major way.

Definitely a McIntire fan and cannot wait for the be t instalment, whatever it may be!!
