I'm normally not the biggest fan of Christmas romcoms, but this was so sweet and made me tear up. First of all, love the chronic illness rep and the family dynamic centered around that. Secondly, Theo was the sweetest MMC from the beginning, I love watching childhood friends go into sweethearts. Lastly, I loved that Ellie stood up for herself and we got to see how healthy and happy she was as a result. This touched on so many different things and I felt a lot of different emotions. 4.75 for sure.
At first, the build up was so slow that I almost put this down, but, wow wow wow wow wow. This turned from a weird, unsolved mystery to an unsettling and creepy situation that I was not expecting at all. This for some reason really gave me Pet Semetary vibes. I wasn't expecting the outcome of this but the ending is so chilling and is currently living rent free in my head.
I just really really love pirate stories. A combination of Pirates of The Caribbean and Bridgerton immediately piqued my interest and I fell in love with this story. Gaspar and Joséfa made a lovely couple and I loved their character arcs as the story progressed. I also loved that this was more plot driven and full of political intrigue rather than spice.
I guess Christmas romances and I just don't get along. This seemed like a cute and fluffy holiday romance and I was super excited but boy, this fell flat in almost every possible way. The plot, characters, and writing was dull and lacked depth. The characters are incredibly immature for their ages and it makes reading their antics super irritating. The only thing I enjoyed was the cozy Christmas vibes.
This was such a perfect cozy middle grade for winter. This brought all the holiday and snowy vibes. I loved all the unique characters, the puzzles and riddles, and the storyline itself. The hotel was atmospheric and I loved the mysteriousness of it. I wasn't expecting the bit with Gracella, but it definitely took the story up a notch.
I love anything Christmas and cats. One of my favorite bits about this has to be that each chapter has a name of a cat and their little quirks and it was the cutest thing ever. As for the story itself, I loved the holiday vibes, the chemistry between Kara and Ben, and the light hearted fluff. It was swoony and sweet and cozy.
Despite the short length this had a great impact. I loved the message about feminism and the retelling of a forgotten woman in mythology. I thought Penthilesea was a strong, relatable character, I enjoyed the dual timelines, and I loved how certain things were slightly changed from the original stories, but they helped this version and made it that more enjoyable. I also thought Penthilesea's memories of her deceased friend were incredibly emotional and moving and it did make me shed a tear.
I've never seen the studio ghibli film but I know this has so much love so I decided to finally give it a read and it captured my heart. It's a sweet, pure, wholesome story about a witch named Kiki. I fell in love with Kiki, she was kind and sweet. The little seaside town and their kind townspeople also captured my heart. This was just a breath of fresh air that I desperately needed.
I was pleasantly surprised but how much I really enjoyed this. I'm a fan of anything that's a dark, twisty retelling of the little mermaid (very loosely, but you can definitely tell the similarities.) I loved Lira's dark, brutal nature and the dynamic between her and the sea queens relationship that shows she's not as twisted as she could be. I loved Elian's strong, determined personality that pushes him to protect his people by killing Lira's kind. I also liked that this had minimal romance and was more plot driven.
