I was pleasantly surprised but how much I really enjoyed this. I'm a fan of anything that's a dark, twisty retelling of the little mermaid (very loosely, but you can definitely tell the similarities.) I loved Lira's dark, brutal nature and the dynamic between her and the sea queens relationship that shows she's not as twisted as she could be. I loved Elian's strong, determined personality that pushes him to protect his people by killing Lira's kind. I also liked that this had minimal romance and was more plot driven.
