A very good historical fiction with plenty of character development told from multiple POV - pretty much my wining combination. But something about this one wasn’t as gripping as Kate Quinn’s popular The Alice Network. I knew how this one was going to end from the very beginning, and that was disappointing - nothing here surprised me- but the journey was fun, intriguing, very well written, and I was invested in the characters,

A sweet story about a service dog for a boy with autism - told from the dog’s perspective

I wanted to really LOVE this book, and I did really like it.... I read about 2/3 of it in a few hours, tearing through it, then I decided to switch to the audiobook so I could “hear” the music which is such a big part of the story. But Jennifer Beals’ version of Daisy is not what I imagined, so I switched back to the hardback. I wish I had just continued reading and finished the book in 2 days because I think my stopping and starting effected my reading experience.

However, The inspiration for this book was Fleetwood Mac and their album “Rumours” The author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, said she was obsessed with Fleetwood Mac and their reunion concert “The Dance” as a teenager, and so was I! I was obsessed, and watched it over and over and over. I convinced my Mom to take me to the concert... my first ever concert. So, this story was interesting to me.

I would love to see a movie to bring this story and it’s music to life.

This book was a delight - several unique settings, a perspective of WWII that I haven’t read or heard about before, a spunky and industrious woman, and a little love story.

I picked up this book after it’s been on my TBR for awhile because a Bookstagrammer recently gave it a glowing review, and it did not disappoint. It was a little meandering at times, especially towards the end, but still a really beautiful book.

This book is highly recommended and has been called “suspenseful” and a “thriller.” I didn’t feel that way about this book, but it was beautifully written with minimal dialogue. The setting of The River was a character itself, and Heller uses descriptions of the human characters actions and behavior to move the story along.

A story of Man vs Nature, Man vs Man. This was a very minimalist story, which was something different for me, but I appreciated the intention behind it.

A simple writing style yet very complex story about two friends who are sometimes lovers. Rooney is masterful in her depiction of young love, friendship, and they say we make things more complicated and complex through our own pain and misunderstanding. This is also a story of surviving trauma and mental illness, of struggling to become a person in the world. I was crying reading in bed at 9 pm. In some ways this story reminded me of A Little Life.

Wow.

Review to come after book club....

How do I follow this one up with any other book? Anything else seems to trivial after this gut-puncher.
