A simple writing style yet very complex story about two friends who are sometimes lovers. Rooney is masterful in her depiction of young love, friendship, and they say we make things more complicated and complex through our own pain and misunderstanding. This is also a story of surviving trauma and mental illness, of struggling to become a person in the world. I was crying reading in bed at 9 pm. In some ways this story reminded me of A Little Life.
