Read for a general overview before delving into more detailed and scholarly biographies. I was only familiar with details of the end of Woolf's life, so I enjoyed getting the facts straight in my head.
Well... That happened.
Pretty, but uninformative.
A cute book that I checked out simply because I found the illustrations charming and will read any spooky thing. It reminded me of the sorts of books that I devoured as a child, and that kindled my love of dark folklore and the paranormal.
The title is the snappiest summation of masking and autistic burnout that I've ever seen. An almost painfully relatable memoir in essays. Autistic women will already be familiar with the ground Kuchak covers; allistics would do well to read this book because that ground will probably be new to them.
I don’t know how many times I’ve read Preludes & Nocturnes over the years, but I will always remember the first time: freshman year of high school, carrying my library’s copy from class to class, desperate for the next stolen moment when I could dive back into what immediately became a formative text for me. Sandman was yet another ‘80s goth artifact that shaded my early-2000s adolescence and would print itself indelibly onto my soul. It introduced me to comfort characters and an erudite, storyteller quality of writing to which to aspire. And it featured some of the most disturbing horror I had or have ever read.
I can’t wait to see how the adaptation has turned out.

I came expecting a lesbian romance because, well, that's what the blurb said.
Was this a lesbian romance? No.
Was it an amusing listen on a frustrating commute? Sure.
Do I still want to read the transbian cyborg story I imagined this would be? Absolutely.

This is the second lesbian SFF romance featuring tentacles that I've read, but hopefully it won't be the last.
I bought this novella expecting it to be fun and pretty silly, and while it was both, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the witty dialogue/narration and how much I liked and related to the characters. I only wish that this were a longer book, so that I could have gotten to know Sian and Trillin more, watched their relationship develop more slowly, and explore the fascinating subterranean magical school that we see only small hints of. But... I suppose that's what the sequel is for!
This is cute and low/no-spice, more monster fucker (aspiring) than monster fucker (practicing), so adjust your expectations if you prefer steamier reads.
With this, the Contemporary Witchy Fiction imprint, and The Locked Tomb, apparently sapphic SFF from New Zealand is my new wheelhouse.
