I don’t know how many times I’ve read Preludes & Nocturnes over the years, but I will always remember the first time: freshman year of high school, carrying my library’s copy from class to class, desperate for the next stolen moment when I could dive back into what immediately became a formative text for me. Sandman was yet another ‘80s goth artifact that shaded my early-2000s adolescence and would print itself indelibly onto my soul. It introduced me to comfort characters and an erudite, storyteller quality of writing to which to aspire. And it featured some of the most disturbing horror I had or have ever read.

I can’t wait to see how the adaptation has turned out.
